Auctioning off on ebay

I have been using ebay now for ten years. I have a funny story about my first sell. It was my wedding dress from my first marriage. I figured I really didn't want it around anymore because we should have never married in the first place. So after a week there are many bids and it sells. I noticed something familiar about screen name. It was just like my daughter's grandmothers email address, but without the @aol.com after it. So I picked up the phone and called her.
I said "Hey there Kathy, how are you?" she says fine. I then asked her if she uses ebay, she responds yes. I said are you such and such on ebay and she said why yes how did you know. I said because that wedding dress you won is my dress.
How weird is that? My first sale ever online was to my daughter's grandmother.
Through out the years I have tried different things to make money on ebay from drop shipping to selling different things, but I have never made any real money doing any of that. The only thing I have really made money off of up to this point is books. I love books, and that is my problem. I don't want to get rid of my books. Now if I see a 1st printing edition cheap of a well known book that I know will sell and I have a copy I have no problem letting it go, it just that rarely happens.
So still I don't really make any money off of this maybe $200 a year, because I can't let go of my books. I love to read and I reread my books. I have tried ebooks but they make me feel car sick, weird side effect since it don't do that when I read regular computer text. Anyways that is off topic, back to ebay.
I been searching for years for something that I can do on ebay to make money. My friend had been doing some experimenting herself and found success in a certain area of ebay, and she taught me what she is doing. For now I don't want to jinx myself and share what I am doing, but I think this might finally be the thing that will start me really making money.
I invest $70 to start, listed a few items from that and made my money back, and still have items from that to list and sell. Then I spent that $70 back into more items and listed some of that stuff, I listed 8 auctions 4 of those sold and I made more than the second $70 investment, and listed more things that have yet to close. One of those auctions is already nearing $100. I think I might have found my answer.
I don't want to jinx it, but I swear in a few months if I do well in my venture I will share what I am selling. Till then to make this a full discussion, do you buy or sell on ebay? If you sell have you found success? Do you have any weird stories to share about selling to someone you know who didn't know they were bidding on your stuff? Anyone else feel like keeping their excitement in just in case the early success is a fluke?

I tried to sell on ebay but I found that people were really just plain jerks. I sold this one guy an item shipped it parcel cause it was heavy and 2 days after end of auction he was mad because he had not gotten the item yet. The topper on it was that he did not even want to pay the shipping charge that was parcel post let alone a more expensive option to get it faster. Another one refused tracking and then was mad when item was shipped with out it. I just got tired of dealing with all the crazies and just do local sales now on craigslist. Much easier that way. People actually see the item before they buy and if they dont like it after they see it they dont have to buy it. Works much better for me than people having buyers remorse.

Hi, Avonrep1! That was kinda weird, huh? Anyway, I do have an account with ebay. I mainly sell pre-loved clothes. I don't regularly sell, but it's okay with me. I am more of a buyer than a seller.
