Finally the electricity is back on!

Two and a half days! The electricity went out at 4:00 am on Wednesday and didn't come back on until last night. The hardest part was not having an Internet connection and not being able to watch TV! Although I have to admit that last night the heat was starting to get to me.
At least I was able to charge my phone, computer and tablet in the car, but I only let each one plugged in a short time. I didn't want to over tax the car battery and it was so hot in the car also.
After two days with no electricity the refrigerator and freezer were completely useless. I had to go out for ice to keep things cool. Had to go out again in the evening to get something for dinner.
Stayed up late last night enjoying the computer and TV (in air conditioned comfort) and now I don't want to do anything today. Have a lot of emails to catch up on :-)

Hi,
In our city also in these days we have to face electricity failure problem. It is very annoying. I can not work on mylot. Here for some days we frequent power failure. When electricity is not available in hot days it is very difficult to tolerate it. It is very nice that your electricity is back and you can enjoy working on mylot.

When there is no electricity on very hot days it is hard to be comfortable. I don't know what I would do if this happened on a frequent basis. When it is very hot, your body temperature starts to rise to dangerous levels causing headaches and other issues. I think if were a regular problem I would have to find a way to have a generator or maybe some solar panels.

This is common here in India but we have what is called an inverter or better still a home ups that keeps certain gadgets working - lights, fans, computer and tv.

Oooh, tell me more! What is this and how does it work? Can you adapt a home to operate this way?

I am glad that you are back, I know what it is like with no electricity, you can't use the fridge or the stove, or anything it is awful. At least you had the car battery that is good. We didn't even have the phone. Did you lose a lot of food?

No, I didn't have a whole lot of stuff in it. Also, I had put some jugs of water in the freezer and that helped keep the fridge cool for a while. I also used one of the frozen jugs in an igloo, which seemed to work best. Later I was able to get ice.

That can happen where I live and it drives me crazy. I hate being without electricity. If we are going to have a hurricane or something then of course the electricity has to be disconnected but when it happens because of an accident or just load shedding then I literally go bananas. I do make sure to keep all electricals fully charged as then it would be worse

All my stuff was charged, but that only lasts for so long. I guess I need to get spare batteries for my phone and computer. My hadncrank flashlight has help up really well and it has a radio so I am going to try one of the mini generators.

Prior to cell phones and the Internet I probably could have gone on without electricity much easier. It was really a drag having to go without TV also. I think I will invest in portable power because listening to the news on the radio is just not the same.

The same thing happened to our place today but our power outage was shorter than yours. It lasted only for 1 night and 1 day. A total of 19 hours but I'm glad it came back 2 hours ago

Congratulations on getting it back so quickly! I think most of us recognize that outages can happen and are willing to put up with them for a day or so, but when the time "in the dark" drags on, it starts to be challenging.

That's a long time for it to be off! I don't know what I would do about food and things....there are so many things we use electricity for.

Yeah, it gets pretty hard to keep cold things cold without electricity to run the fridge. I tried freezing jugs of water the day before, but it didn't do a lot.

We went four days without it once but it was in the winter which is a whole another story. I bet the heat did finally start getting to you....Its been so hot this summer I don't know how you could stand it. Glad it's back on again and you are enjoying your assets. Makes you appreciate electricity doesn't it?

I don't know about 4 days in the winter... that would be pretty rough depending on the temperature. When it's so cold that you can't move your fingers and/or they hurt, there's nothing you can do unless you have gas. I am looking into some portable power sources.

The only thing that has ever driven me crazy when the power has gone out is not being able to mylot, that and the dark dark and heat at night. I'm glad it finally came back on, two and a half days is kind of torture when it comes to the heat, everytime it goes out and stays out that long I just want to be an exhibtionist and stay that way until it's cool again.

I can relate! I am a private exhibitionist, lol. I believe in being comfortable above all else. I had been spending a lot of time at home so being stuck indoors without the net or TV got to me fast!

My goodness, I have not even experienced more than few hours of blackout.
Over here, 15 minutes of blackout, and it would make headlines in the newspaper already!
I think we take things for granted here.
You should have joined Mommaj in her cave during the two days.
I am sure she will keep you cool and entertained.

The longest I have ever gone without electricity after a storm before this one is 36 hours. That was in 2005, the same summer we experienced Hurricane Katrina. Hopefully the rest of this season will be nothing like that one. Haven't heard from Mommaj in a bit...

That's some time to be without power, and when you earn online as we do, it's a double nuisance. When it does come back, there's all the catching up to do with emails and notifications, which keeps you away from your work for even longer. Still, the main thing is, you're safe and well. Nice to see you back in action.

Yes, it really is a lot of catching up! It's not just online stuff either; local businesses were closed and now the friggin' holiday is hindering me further! Thanks for the well wishes!
