hello friends,
I have a doubt, people usually say , we should never follow a crowd, if we do so, we wont achieve what we want and so on, as it is said " the one who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The one who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been" but my doubt is, if we don't follow anyone how will we know what we want? i am really confused , please share your views friends

prashu:
In respect of business -- trying something new -- may bring results that are very big. But in respect of life --it is better to be in the company of people-- many boys commit mistake in selection of partner -- they do things singly --with the result they end up selecting a wrong partner -- yesterday in a TV program in Zee TV I saw more than 10 men cheated by a woman -- she enticed them to get married or taken money etc.

this girl cheated men by telling that she is an orphan and she wanted to study further and all that. same way one has to be cautious when dealing with men also.

Following the crowd is something one does when they are young/uncertain. Crowds create a sense of belonging/protection. If one is in a crowd, he or she feels like a part of something. After all, with so many people gathered; there must be something one is missing if they don't join. Right? Well, for one, not everyone fits in and not all crowds are meant to be followed. It takes time to understand the psychology and sociology of crowd behavior. Everyone is an individual. One must learn to be himself or herself. This is usually done as one grows and matures (mentally and physically). As one develops a knowledge of whom he or she is, he or she learns the importance of being true to oneself in a crowd or alone. This is what it means to be an adult. Whether one follows, leads, or stands alone, he or she does it by choosing to make a decision. But, one's decision is his or hers to make. It can be influenced by state of mind, but judged as right or wrong with or without foresight and if remembered, always with hindsight. This is how to understand that even in a crowd, everyone is not the same.

Just be yourself. Be the leader of your life. Crowds have their ways of being an obvious mass of this or that, but one can be clear as to whom he or she finds comfort in gathering with. Be comfortable in your own skin no matter who you are with or how you stand out.

hi prashu228 well most sayings have some merit and also some dis merit. I have followed others to get an idea then a lot of
times I find I also have other ideas that are even better
so I listen to myself and try out my ideas. Most often they
do work and when they do not I enlist my adult son who is
really so smart and I trust his opinions and his knowledge
too.Sometimes when I follow my own ideas I do realize that
I w s right to trust in my self.hope you get other responses
too as yours is a good discussion that makes one use ones
brains.

Aha a good point that I need reminding of - Confidence is basically trust in yourself. I lack this in almost everything I do...

so, we have to take ideas from others or follow them when we are in confusion, right? so when we are confident about ourselves then, we can go further with our ideas. okay i got the point . i will remember this ,in my life, i use my lot to clear most of my doubts, i have a very confusing mind, actually, so i think a lot and lot while making any decisions, or come to conclusions, i am glad that i found my lot. This helps me in understanding the point from other end.

Hi friend, there is no confusion in this term, if we follows the crowd, we will get confusion, i.e crowd means more than one person, different kind of people is having different kind of thoughts, opinion and attitude. The thing which seems to be good to a person may seems to be bad to another one, so don't follow the crowd, there is nothing wrong in following a person who is good, set him as your role model and follow the single persons quotes and activities to get success in your life

There is more than one way to look at this obviously so it should be an interesting discussion!
My thoughts on it are this:
It is good to have a nice positive role model to follow. We will learn from example so when we have someone to look up to, we will learn from them and hopefully follow their good example.
This is different than following the crowd because a crowd usually means they are doing something to fit in. Or some like to say they have the "sheep mentality". A lot of bad things can come from following the crowd. Often peer pressure will follow this and many teens or young adults will be following a bad road quickly through this.
There is the other thing that being in a "crowd" meaning a group, is not always a bad thing. Many groups and organizations come together for a great cause.
The over all point is that you should be an individual in your life and not let peer pressure lead you into poor decisions. One saying that I made up is "Individual thought patterns make life interesting". And I believe that and try to live by it myself.

yes, while i started this discussion ,i had this role model point in my mind, sheep mentality is different from role model concept, yes sheep mentality is ,i have seen some people who choose a particular subject even though they are not interested only because their friends choose it, and the loss is theirs finally, yes we should know what we want from our life , and should develop such ability , then we can reach any heights in life.

It is a shame that so many will follow their friends into such bad habits that even their life will be ruined if they follow too far. Even adults do this to themselves and I find it sad, I have done it too and I hope I won't in the future because I have seen how harmful it can become.
Follow your dreams and passions and you will get far in life and feel great about yourself.

Hi prashu,I feel it depends on the circumstances and situations in life. When you have something that is time tested and perfected by others it is much easier to follow that instead of taking trouble over it.But when you are not very sure about certain isuues and would like to explore further it is better to go right ahead and do so...all the best ,enjoy your evening

yes situations also play a role along with other factors and yes sometimes it works when we choose a new path and try to explore

We follow someone only when that person inspires us. Everyone needs some source of inspiration to get going. It is up to us whether we follow someone blindly or while following we keep our eyes open and side by side seek new directions throughout the path. The one who follows someone can learn from the mistakes of his predecessor. While if you choose to walk alone you will have to brace yourself to face all the challenges and difficulties you meet on the way all by yourself. But yes if we succeed in what we do, we can be the inspiration for others and be their predecessor.

exactly, there is always something in life , which keeps on helping us to learn whether from our own mistakes or from others.
