It's already known how it works to look for a job. A company needs a new employer and many people would like to have the job and more nowadays, being the unemployed rate so high in many countries and the situation so difficult for many people to find a good job. As an unemployed person, you usually look every day on internet and/or in the newspapers and maybe still on other ways. You make telephone calls, send your vita per email or per post, and so on. Finally, a company get in touch with you and ask you for an interview. You go to the appointment and everything all right until now. But, what if the company asks you to work one day to proof you, like a test piece? They want you to work one (or perhaps a few days) to test you. This day won't be paid and you get the answer if you are accepted or not after that day. Of course, it's a risk, because you work a day for free and you still don't know if this job is yours. It seems that it is becoming something usual now for test piece so you can show your qualifications and knowledge through your work.
Do you have any experience about it? Is it usual in your country?

No, i won't do ..why i have to do without earning. Based on my documents, the interview, if they think i can't work with them, then it is fine, i find a position in another company.
I know it is hard to find a good job right now but i am very confident about my ability so that i find a position, not a job.
Some people may laugh to my face when i said like this, but it doesnt matter...

Of course, each person has to decide until where he or she is willed to go and if he or she wants to accept all conditions. Even needing a job to get an income, we also give our abilities to the company during the time of the contract. The respect has to stand up on both sides. But even so and in my opinion, working only one day for a company is not too bad, as you also learn something new during that day.

That's right, if someone has the bad luck to to work one day here and one day there, that you have to ask for the money. But, if the confirmation for that job depends of that you are willed or not to work one day? In my opinion, if a person works one day in different companies and no one confirmes him or her to sign a payed contract for this person, so he or she must be a very bad worker, don't you think so? If a company offers you one test day working, the usual is that they are already interested in you, but they want to be one hundred percently sure. If this happens what you mentioned, of course you can deny and say you won't do it, but if you have for example ten of those offers, what about saying no to eight of them and yes to two? We always can make a selection. What do you think about this?

I do not think that it is right for the company not to pay the potential employee; however, I do see some benefit to having a "trial" period before starting a new job. In addition to allowing the employer to see if the prospective employee is a good fit for their company, it also allows the prospective employee to see if they think the company and position is a good fit for them. Sometimes you will know from day one if something is not right for you. Rather than accepting a job and then being tied into working there for several months or years, you do not have to worry about starting a job knowing you will be unhappy or worrying about quitting too soon and being disrespectful to the company that hired you.

That's exactly the reason why some companies do the trial period. Even if the companies think more about their own benefit wondering if the new employee is the right one for the job, as the check up during that day how does this person work, they also give him or her the oportunity to see wether the interested feel fit for this job and really would like to work their. The companies nowadays don't want to risk any more to contract someone without the knowledge how this person work, because it is to expensive for them to employ already when they have to recognize after a week that maybe that person doesn't work as they want to, then they have to pay him/her out and to employ another one and so on. Otherwise, it's also like a filter which starts in the interview where they check the employer if he/she is willed or not to accept a trial period (not everyone accepts it) and if the person accepts it, how he or she works. Do you have been asked already to work during a trial period?

hi camomile I have never heard of that process before b ut I sup pose it could work but I think I would be super nervous and probably flunk their test. whatever happened to just hiring
and go from there? I worked as a nurses aide so had already
had experience so was hired immediately the hospitals are always short of help. I have been long retired now from the work force.
I also worked for many years in our local library shelving medis'a all kinds.I do not think that test thing is much used in the
USA.

I am not aware if companies in our country have that kind of testing phase. But I have experienced several jobs online wherein the employer would as for you to do some tasks for a day then they will decide of you have met their standards. If you are really in need of a job, you would readily say yes to these kinds of offer widening your possibilities of landing a job afterwards.

I also agree to try the testing phase if this can increase the possibility to get a job you really wish.

In my country company should not hire someone without pay, even it is in the probation period.
But if it is just one or two days test piece and I think that is OK,but if it will last more a month I think this is totally unacceptable, and I also think that the company which will those stuff will not be a good company,so if we face this situation I will the good choice is to drop these kinds of opportunity.
Just have a little faith, next will be the best.

Of course, there is a difference made between testing period and probation period. All contracts include a probation period and during this time you will get already payd. The test period can be from one day only and should not take longer than one week. And this period is not paid. From this day(s) depends if they give you the job or not.
