With things like Iphone , Ipad and notebook/laptops/netbooks around in the market, is it still a necessary to have a desktop at home? I think the revolution of the All in one PC is stupid and a waste of investment, what do you think ?

I like working a desk top better, than a lap top, I am using a desktop computer right now, I have had my desktop computer for 6 years, it running kind of slow but it works just the same for me, I am thinking about getting me a laptop, because I need a faster working computer right now.

Hi Sir_bobby88, here I don't see any companies, departmental offices, reception counters government or commercial still using desktops instead of laptops. May be such devices still have their unknown advantages that I don't know especially for office use I suppose. No wonder we still could see new launching of desktops available now and then in the market Of course I haven't used desktop for quite a long period after I had owned my first laptop that was really handy. this is my third portable pc, a notebook in black.. Happy posting

Although today the desktop, iPad and tablet are much more popular. However, some people still prefer to use the desktop. Especially some people believe that playing the computer games with desktop is faster and better. I love China

I would prefer a desktop against laptop. Even if I would buy a laptop or a tablet I am not going to sideline my desktop. Desktop is very convenient for online gaming and it is cheaper in the price too. The users above have mentioned about overheating and tough handling does also play the part.

I think that the desktop won’t be that archaic or sidelined as some might suggest you have to remember that there are some reasons to keep an old desktop. One of the reasons is the price and the capacity. Desktops are still the main form of computers in many companies. Also, they are versatile, you can add a peripheral or subtract one of you feel that it is not working anymore. Besides, may computer enthusiasts build their own computer in desktop style. The same can be said with a laptop but the space restriction can post in making your own computer.

You can not replace any purpose on the computer at home. I have a computer with a sound card of ten channels that records in real time. This computer has musical studio purpose. Ordinary things might be possible to replace. Not to talk about the processes where you process videos. Suppose if you want to work on turning the film into a three dimensional form. Then, in similar situations, you really need powerful processors and home computer. But for ordinary jobs is perhaps possible to partially replace some of the functions.

I think it will take few more years before desktops are completely outdated. But I personally feel more comfortable working with a desktop. The laptops are easy to carry and takes less space, at the same time they get hot quickly and are not convenient to use due to their small size.

For home pc needs, I think desktop PCs will be outdated. For one, monolith wise. Computers can only be situated in an immobile set up in a room, while laptops can be used from the bedroom to the living room to the kitchen even to the patio. But for office and other work at ups, I think desktop PCs will still remain to be used even preferred over laptops because of durability and reliability especially if that organization hosts their own server.

i think, now may be in couple of years, desktop will be outdated. cause, now, these laptops, Tablets etc, are convenient to use and store too... use less space. more comfortable to move any where, take anywhere. desktop on the other hand, takes extra space, difficult to move, cant travel with it. but the only advantage i find it, u sit properly when you use desktop. more comfortable to work with. with laptop and other devices, you just lie down, or sit anywhere, anyhow, you may have some back problems and so.

Desktop computers are used for gaming and server hoosts. Since laptops can be easily overheated and damaged, desktop computers is the solution. Desktop computers are also more powerful and cheaper than laptops. Desktop computers are usually more comfortable for most people. Desktop computers are less dangerous than those small computers like laptops, netbooks, iPad etc..

Yep true, I don't like the concept of All-in-One PC (I think it'll just bring a lot of trouble in the end). And it really depends on every person's wants or needs. I still prefer desktop for online gaming, and laptop maybe for Facebook, FB Games, chatting or home/office works (as mentioned above, laptop tends to overheat and needs to re-charge after few hours or so).
