My Dog and his Funny Trends with new Toys/ Bones..

Everytime I buy my dog a new bone or toy he acts a little bit silly. For a few days he will mope around with it in his mouth ( his eyes looking sad and droopy) and then finally he will break down and chew it. When he walks around with it, it's almost like he's looking for a spot to hide it because he will often just lay ontop of it as if he doesn't want anyone to get it from him. Does your dog do things like this or how does he/she react to a new treat or toy. Thanks for sharing.

Ha~ Thats hilarious! My dog is older now -- he doesn't eat rawhide bones any more (they don't agree with his stomach anymore) and doesn't play too often with his toys but he does lay on them. He will bring them to me...but I'm not to take them...he just wants me to see that he has them. When he was younger he loved those little stuffed animal toys...oh my gosh...he had a ton of them....he would pick them out and lick them almost like he was cleaning a puppy. When he got a new on he would grab it and take it to the older ones...like he was introducing them. it was hilarious! He did have his favorites that he liked...those were usually on his bed just like a child would have that one stuffed animal they couldn't sleep with.

Sometimes I really do think that he struts around with his toys just to show them off, he definately doesn't want me touching it unless he wants to play tug of war.

Dogs are naturally possessive with their toys/bones. That must be the reason why he acts that way.

It surprises me that he doesn't want to chew it right away! I thought he'd want to chew it and get rid of it before someone else steals it from him.

Dogs are a riot! I have two, one Giant Schnauzer named Atticus and one Chihuahua named Taco, and they both act like kids on Christmas when I come home with something for them. And just like kids they want what the other one has. So when one gets something, they are trying to hide it. We used to have another Giant Schnauzer, the first Giant Schnauzer named Spock and every Christmas a friend of ours would give him one of those huge raw hide bones and he'd walk around the house but he'd look so proud, like he was showing it off. He'd want you to try to take it so he can turn his head away so you can't get it. It's funny but maybe because Spock was here first, Taco never tried to take his away. Must be the rules in doggy society.

You're right, must be some kind of mysterious rule in doggy society hehe. My dog always likes to go through bags after my shopping trips, so I will purposely put his toy in one of the bags so that he can stick his nose in there and grab it himself, he loves it.
