ABOUT traveling in MEXICO BY CAR/VAN..

Check on the web about information for tourists as the experiences may vary depending on the time you go. I have beeen sevral times in Ciudad de Mexico and it´s awesome. The first time, an office directed us to the Zona Rosa and we found ourselves in an expensive old hotel that had seen better times. Next day we went sightseeing and found wonderful fairly unexpensive hotels near El Zócalo. Some of them are old houses entirely remodeled, so it´s a good idea to check the inside. I found Mexicans to be very nice and helpful with me. While at he capital, I would park the van and use the metro. It´s the least expensive way to go places.

I traveled to Mexico with some friends by road once many years ago. We just barely crossed the border from California into a town called Tijuana. I learned later that it was not the safest place, but we were just some young and crazy kids back then looking for fun.

I have traveled to Mexico in the area south of Cancun. I loved visiting the Mayan ruins at Tulum. I stayed in a backpackers hostel in the center of town the first time I was there. The second time I was there I stayed in a thatched beach hut. Wow! I think fuel prices in Mexico are probably quite low. You need to stay safe when driving with all your doors locked. You should stay in hotels that offer car parking. Good luck with your trip. I flew to Cancun by plane and then traveled by bus. On my trip I saw some of Mexico, some of Belize and some of Guatemala.
