Some ways to earn online. Any LEGIT ideas?

I've been on the net for years and always been interested in making money online. I have seen many sites that ask you to pay ~ as a rule of thumb I always go by "if you have to pay to earn, don't do it". What are your thoughts on this? I do have one good site that I regularly earn money on.
