When I watch television - the newstime and they talk about China and I watch the images, it seems that many persons over there use the face protection covering their mouth. I am wondering why there are so many people using it. Is it just a habit to protect themselves before any illness? Or does it have any important meaning? I wonder because it's the only place I've seen it outside hospitals.

I think there's nothing wrong in covering their mouth while they're outside. It doesn't mean that all people who surround him or her has an illness. Maybe they would like to protect themselves from the pollution that they might get. I think if you were in their place maybe you would do the same. Happy mylotting.

I agree with you. Maybe, I would do the same, but I simply was wondering about why they do so as I haven't seen it at any other places. The point is that I like to learn about and from other people, countries and cultures because every place has got something special we can learn from. And mylot is one of the greatest way to learn, as you can ask all your questions and doubts you have and almost all will be answered mostly by the people from other places. Thanks for your post and happy mylotting for you as well.

Since the outbreak of SARS and Bird Flu, people here are just being more wary and cautious. In the crowded cities, it is quite common to see people who are stricken with the flu wearing face masks to prevent it from spreading to others in the public.
In Beijing, we will have the occasional sandstorms during the summers and again the public will be wearing the face masks for health reasons.

Thank your for the clarifications. There are not many countries or people using a simple item like the face masks to prevent. Even using other kind of prevention which won't often help, it's known that many desease are transmitted through the air, the breathing, sneezing and coffing. Maybe we should realize it more and take also more preventions like this.

Actually, there are plenty of persons with a weak imune system, that's right. Do you think that people lived healthier in the passed, maybe a hundred or two hundred years ago?

Actually, protection becomes more and more important. Times are changing and also our habits and attitudes. Nowadays there are so many points in our life which seems to be nothing or stupid, but are able to create a big problem.

That's right. Environment in citties is a really big problem and hopefully a time will come where people will be able to change it, finding a right solution to it.

I noticed the same when I was in Jakarta. Many people, especially when they are waiting for public transportation, walking along busy streets or riding motorcycles, wear those. At first I also thought they were sick and cover themselves to protect others around them from catching their germs. But I was told that they wear them to protect themselves from the air pollution caused by vehicles all around them. They wear them because they don't want to get sick, not because they are sick as why they were worn if it is in clinics or hospitals.

That might be a good reason, of course nobody wants to get sick and it's right, many illnesses are cought through the air. The best we can do is to protect ourseselve. Thank you for sharing your information.
