Ouch, these are the most aggravating little irritating parts of life, lol!
Most of the time you get them from handling a lot of paper products and this dries out your hands...then these little buggers show up and make things worse. At least I think these are from dry hands and handling cardboard, paper type stuff. I DO moisturize my hands but they just happen anyways.
I've had about three over the last few weeks and I can't figure out why. I ended up cutting them with a tiny pair of scissors but this last one just seemed to stick around...grr. I couldn't get close enough to get rid of it.
Finally, I just pulled it out and yes, now I'm bleeding. Cutting it just wasn't good enough and I still got it caught on everything which hurt worse than ever.
Do you get these too? Do you think they're from your hands drying out? Do you do anything to stop these from happening?

I didn't know hangnails was from handling paper products, but I usually only get them bad if I don't have my trimmers to keep my nails trimmed back, to keep them from splitting on the sides. (which I believe is what a hang nail is, right? Where the nail splits on the side?) It actually makes me cringe to hear you had pulled it out... I rarely have to get it to where it is bleeding, if at all..If I do, it is because I don't have my trimmers and why I always make sure I have a pair with me most of the time..

Okay Kash,, Ugh, the thought of pulling it out really makes me cringe.. Yuck...My hands get really dry during the winter, but even if I had a hang nail that I couldn't trim away, I would keep trimming and not do what you did..

Yeah, as something as mild as a hangnail, I can't tolerate it. So I either keep trimming or if that doesn't work, I put antibiotic and a bandaid on it until it heals up. So yep, I am a chicken where it comes to any kind of injury, regardless how big or small...This is also why I never went into vet school, couldn't handle having to poke an animal with a needle, even if it is for its own good..

You're so funny Carm. It's just that it kept getting caught on stuff and that hurt worse than me pulling the dang thing out, lol! I just wanted to get rid of it and that I did!

They are hurtful & aggravating. When u put lotion on go around each nail & push the cuticle back. I hope that helps u, it does me.

Aren't they though, just awful! I do push the cuticle back but I still get them. It's when I don't do it consistently that they show up. I forget to moisturize every day like I should.

Hi jill, I wouldn't wish these on my enemies....well, maybe. Yes, they do hurt and they do sting! I was so miserable trying to cut it low enough to the skin and then it would come right back. Yup, out I pulled it because I couldn't stand it any longer.
I hope you do not get any of these rotten little life irritables! Fingers crossed, toes crossed...the toes are an extra!

i thought it comes from not enough vitamins in your food. mainly calcium. I used to have a friend that said eat jello, which i think only has pectin in it, but who knows. i get them at different times and they are truely terrible.

Hi bunnybon,
Yeh, I would imagine some people could get them from lack of calcium, but that's not what mine are caused from. My nails are very hard and the jello they say helps people with soft nails that break all the time.
These are from dry hands, the one's that I get. I try to remember to moisturize everyday but sometimes I forget. I use to get them all the time when I did stock and handled cardboard boxes all the time. Very aggravating little buggers.

I hear ya Raine..I use to get those all the time too when I was working. They are very irritating and such a small thing, but they hurt as much as a big cut. Sometimes I think they're even worse.
