As far as I know,on the average, only 40% of the qualifyied voters participate in presidential election which held every four years. In fact, the majority of american people do not care about this election, why?

i personally beleive that democracy is the mother of all crisis.this was proposed by aristotle about 22360 years ago and we still want to impose it in world.we all know that aristolian theories have proven wrong due to only observation basis.the few voters participate because they are now fed up with democratic way of government, unintentionally, thats the reason they are no more interested.

It is a fallacy that the US is a democracy. It is not, it is a Constitutional Republic.

If america is not a democracy, then what dose democracy mean? Are there any country in this worl dwhich can be called as a democracy? After all american politicans always boast that america is a democratic and free county and spare no efforts to export their democracy to other countries like iraqi,Afghanistan

Each of these people have their own reasons. I can think of a few:
1. They think their vote doesn't count and/or won't sway the Electoral College votes/opinion on who get selected
2. The person they believe in isn't running
3. They are convinced that a vote for one of the main 2 parties is a throw away vote
4. They get tired of the 2 main parties that are running before the election
Then there are the folks that have no idea who the President or VP currently are, not sure I want those folks to vote lol

I have to agree with sede1027. American's used to be educated about what kind of government they wanted and made an effort to choose wisely. That hasn't been the case for about the last half of our history. We've gotten slack and lazy. Now it's critical that the right choice is made and we have a citizenry that is ill or misinformed and the rest apathetic.
