What can you say about resurrection of the body after death? Is this doctrine of resurrection believed also in other religions? If a person is believed to have an immortal soul that separate from his/her body upon death and goes to its "reward" whether in heaven, or hell or purgatory, why is there a need of a resurrection? On the other hand, if a person is believed to be resurrected or to be made alive again in the future, why is there a need of an immortal soul? Can you clarify/comment?

Have you ever come across the expression "immortal soul" in the Bible? If you have, could you please tell me the reference? Thanks!

hello 1hopefulman. Honestly, I have not come across with the phrase "immortal soul" in the whole Bible or to any Bible concordance for that matter. However, since immortal soul is associated with heaven or hell for reward or punishment respectively, may I give you some references albeit only expressions to it. The gift of eternal life or to live eternally requires that we should be immortal (Romans 6:23b). To be tormented day and night for ever and ever requires that we should be immortal (Rev.20:10).

Hi! I appreciate your response. However, if the soul is immortal, you already have seen one dilemma, the resurrection, will make no sense. And the resurrection is taught in the Bible and the word,, unlike immortal soul, appears many times in the Scriptures.
And there are many other problems, like this verse: Matthew 10:28 King James Version (KJV) 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
If the soul is destroyed in hell (Greek Gehenna) then it is not immortal because you cannot destroy something immortal or it would not be immortal. Your thoughts?
Now: let's try to understand the reasoning you brought up. Before I can do that though, which Bible translation are you reading? I will find useful if I know that.

@ JohnRok1- I prefer to discuss the Bible and not man-made philosophy.
Colossians 2:8 King James Version (KJV) 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Since you cannot produce one Scripture with the words "immortal soul" than that is not a Bible teaching. I'm sorry but I have nothing left to say. I wish you well!

Hello,
I am a Muslim and yes there is doctrine of resurrection in my religion.
We believe that all human beings are going to be raised again on the day of judgement and will be rewarded or punished as per their deeds and beliefs. Also the reward or punishment will be given to the body+soul so the body and soul are both immortal.

Hello Naseem00. I appreciate very much your giving me insights about your religion. At least, the belief of resurrection and (immortal) soul is not limited to Christianity and this is something for me to further study.
