Nearly 52 workers of a fireworks factory are feared killed in a fire explosion that took place. This types of incidents happen every year. Sivakasi is known for supply of fireworks to all the countries in the world. Even children get employed there. Work is not a problem in that place.
Last May when I went to srivilliputhur I had opportunity to visit a temple in Sivakasi where fire has taken place. It is a nice calm village bustling with activity. But preparedness to meet such accidents are not there.
A news report on that from Times of India

Please share your views on this recurring problem of fire an deaths.

You are from Philipines. You have fireworks factory there also? I know China has a lot of factories in fireworks and is a competitor for Sivakasi factories. Yes. I also wish such accidents do not occur in future.

that is the problem with fireworks manufacturing. a part is shown on records and a part is not shown. in spite of income the position of city is not improving and lacks basic facilities.

ravisivan, this a horrifically devastating accident for those people. And children being in the fire sickens me. After reading the article in the link you supplied I read most of the comments. That is a very dangerous place to work. Many blame government for not enforcing rules/regulations. Others blame the greed of factory owners. It is said that there are not enough rescue vehicles in that area and the road/roads to the factory are not good for traveling on. And because of Diwali there were many more chemicals there than usual which caused the fire to quickly spread to all 40 rooms of the factory. And many fires have occurred there in the past. The plight of the local people there is appalling. It is sad that they, and their children, must work in those conditions. And the local hospital is inadequate, having only one burn unit. I will pray for the victims and their families. Especially for the children. Thank you for bringing this to the attention of many people who would otherwise not have known. Maybe pressure on the government to do something will have results.

It is nice of you to have spent time to go through article and comments from others. True Sivakasi lacks the basic amenities in spite of the fact that it contributes more towards India's exports and earn foreign exchange.
that part now the government has to initiate measure to see that workers are given protection. Also enmity among factory owners people in favour and against may contribute for intentional fire accidents also.

Thank you ravisivan. India has been a country of interest to me for many years. I find it beautiful, mystifying and troubled. It's a country I wish I could cup in my hands and soothe it's troubles. From reading some of India's history I have watched it grow and change. It's sad that there are so many problems there (from what I have read). But every country has it's troubles.
And we can't solve the problems of the world......yet.

hi ravisivan this is just horrible and there should be some
preventative measures taken so this does not keep happening.
All should be taught safety measures and also safe guards to
prevent the fires in the first place and child labor should
be abolished completely. They need to be prepared too for any emer
gency with medical help available at once, ambulances, first aid, emergency treatment but best need to know how to prevent these accidents
from ever happening.

Fires that take people's lives is something that is actually quite frequent here, especially during the winter when people are depending on heaters and fireplaces to keep warm.
I really don't think that there is anything that can be done to prevent many of these deaths because there are so many people around here that are very poor. This means that they are not able to afford to have proper furnaces in their home.
What I really do know for sure is that the risk of fire is something that is detrimental to a family. One of my best friends lost two of his children in a house fire almost two years ago and it still impacts him every single day.

I came to know about this incident recently.Every year this incident happens, but this year it looks to be massive deaths of nearly 60.In the previous times, there will deaths of 10 or so wit so many others injured. The funny part is that after such an incident, they give money to the family member and hire new workers to start the work the very next day like nothing has happened.I agree your point that adequate safety measuress are not taken even though this happens every year.Hope some officials will look into this.

Such a sad news to hear. Its the biggest producer of fireworks in India.
Every firework I saw and burst had been made in sivakasi.
My heart goes to the families of the deceased and those who are injured.
Working in firework factories mean working in potential bomb houses which can attack you anytime.Sad :(
And I highly suspect the security of the personnel working
there.
One immediate solution which comes to my mind is having a fire station very near to each and every firework factory in the country which of course can't help in protecting them from fire and loss of property and people arising from it but
surely can minimize the overall imapct of the disaster.

Welcome to mylot. to some extent the step suggested by you will help. Fire accidents take place on account of various reasons:
1) electricity short circuit
2) enmity among owners
3) unintentional fire
4) occupational hazard etc.
The pity is every year one or two such accidents take place.
