Restaurants and dishes you don't like

When you visit a restaurant do you usually choose a dish that you already know or a dish that you have never eaten before? Did you ever choose a unknown dish that you didn't like at all? What was the name of the dish and why didn't you like it?
Sometimes I order a dish that I already know, but I also I like to try new dishes.Of course some of them are better than others, but I am usually able to eat the dish that I have chosen.
I only remember two exceptions. One time I got pigs feet in a French restaurant, because we misunderstood the menu.
Another time I visited a Thai restaurant with a friend. We ordered some dishes that we hadn't tried before. I really didn't like the taste of the starter. I think that they had used some spices that I didn't like, but I don't remember the names. It is one of the few times I have ordered a dish that I absolutely didn't like and I wasn't able to eat the dish.
I thought "Okay, things like that happen sometimes when you like to experiment and I am sure that the main course is much better" So I patiently waited for the main course. We got the main course and I was really hungry, because I hadn't been able to eat the starter. As soon as I started eating the main course I discovered that it contained the exact same combination of spices as the starter

I usually get disappointed with pricey food served in some restaurants. Earlier today, I was disappointed with the shrimp roll we ordered, not because of the taste, but because of the size. There was that one time we ordered something and it was a Filipino food from a restaurant offering that kind of dish in a more authentic and delicious way. But, still I found it to be too pricey. The thing is, I love to experiment with food and I like to try new things every month. I don't really stick to one but if I feel like craving for that particular dish, I order it even though I've tried it many times. When we go to a restaurant and we order something we are not familiar with, I always ask. I don't hesitate to ask what it is, so that I could have an idea what it would look like and taste like. Maybe next time you can do that. Don't be shy to ask 'cause a few years back, I was always shy at restaurants but then realized that for me to get my money's worth, I want to finish my dish so I want to know what are in the dish that are unfamiliar, and would still be able to eat them all up afterwards.

I think that it is a good idea to ask to the waiter if we don't know the dish. That would give us the chance to find out if it is a dish that we are going to enjoy or not. When I ordered those dishes at the Thai restaurant I just read the description in the menu and the dishes sounded delicious, but when I tasted them I immediately knew that I didn't like them probably because of some of the spices that they had used in the dishes. In the future I am going to be more careful and I hope that I won't end up in the same situation again.

At least, now you know which ones to choose or not to choose right? Anyway, a little bit of research can do you some good as well. There are times when I have heard or read about a particular restaurant from somewhere or have seen one while traveling, and one of the things that I usually do would be to check some blogs and reviews about them. Some of these reviews are pretty helpful since they kind of give you some expectations especially when dining at a restaurant for the first time.

When i go to a new place, i always try to order dishes that i haven't eaten yet. if it is not delicious then i think it is ok, i will try to order another dish in the next time.
One more thing, if i accompany with friends, i will order dishes that are different with my friends' dishes and then ask them how about their dishes, if they said it is good then i may try it later...

It is a good idea to order to different dishes if you are having dinner with some friends. My friends and I also do that and we let eachother taste the food that we have ordered. If we like the food that we taste we might decide to order that dish next time. Like you I often try to order dishes that I haven't eaten before, because I find it interesting to taste new kinds of food. Sometimes I don't like the food that I have ordered like I experienced when my friend and I visited the Thai restaurant together, but I am willing to take that chance, because I love to experiment. I am usually able to eat the food that get even if it isn't quite as delicious as I hoped.

Hi Porco, i ever experienced a few times where i ordered a new menu that looks delicious to me. But, it was the opposite either too sour or spicy until i can't eat them at all. It is a waste to see that the food i ordered are being put there without even finishing it. Now, i had learned my lesson and always prefer to order only the food that cooked using combination of spices that i know to eat. By that way, i didn't waste any money and able to enjoy that new dishes as well. Most of the Thai food, i don't know to eat, too. Especially those dishes cooked with Tom Yam paste because they are too spicy...

Sometimes when we order unknown food the food that we get is different from the food that we expected and we discover that we don't actually like the food that we get. That is a waste, and we since we already ordered the food we have to pay for it whether we like the food or not. Fortunately I haven't experienced that situation more than a few times. Sometimes the food is not quite as delicious as I expected, but I am still able to eat the food. A few times like the time when my friend and I visited the Thai restaurant I got a dish that I simply couldn't eat because it had a very strong taste that I didn't like. I was sad that I had wasted my money on that dish, but when I ordered it I thought that I was going to like it.

Hey.Yesterday,me and my friend went to a proper korean restaurant. We wanted to try something new and so we entered there. The menu was written in korean and in english.Anyway we did not understand wat each dish was. Finally after about 30 minutes of the waiter trying to make us understand the dishes,I ordered some dish which I cannot even spell. It had little rice with more and more of chicken pieces mixed with vegetables.when kept inside the mouth,it tasted sweet but after a minute it was so much hot and caught in the tongue.I was able to eat it but wont try it again lol.

I have never had the chance to eat Korean food, but I hope to visit one of the Korean restaurants in Copenhagen one day. I wonder if I will experience the same thing as you, but I am willing to take the chance, because I love to try new things. I especially love to visit international restaurants, because it gives me the chance to taste food from a different part of the world and I always find that interesting. Chinese restaurants are very common in my country, but think that there are any Korean restaurants on my island or the neighbour island.

I don't know the dishes that you mentioned, where are they from? I also live in a town with few good restaurants. Sometimes my husband and I eat at one of those restaurants, but it doesn't happen very often because we have to save our money for other things at the moment.

Busy from work and I don't have enough time to cook our dinner we agreed to order our food from our favorite restaurants. We ordered our favorite dishes good for four persons since we are four in the family. But, when the time comes to get our order the food was not yet available which takes almost an hour to wait. When we reached home and set our table my kids noticed that we missed other dishes instead we have one which was not our order. We tried to contact the restaurants what had happened and they asked an apology because it as their mistakes. But, anyway we enjoyed eating the food but I didn't like their services it happened to us twice already.

I understand why you don't like the service in that restaurant. First you had to wait an hour for the food and then when the food was finally ready you didn't get the food that you had ordered. I would find that very annoying especially if it happened more than once. Some time after we moved here we bought some food from one of the restaurants on our island. We picked up the food and went back to our home to eat. When we opened the containers we discovered that they had given us the wrong dishes. We went back to the restaurant and told them that we got the wrong dish and they finally gave us the dish that we had ordened. They next time they made another mistake and since that time we haven't bought our food there.

I love to try different foods. But I´m the kind of person that will ask the waitress to tell me something about the dish if it´s not said in the menu. Usually it is, because I only go to good restaurants. My friends invite me as I cannot pay for them, but I invite them to my home for cheap gourmet food made by me from scratch.

It is nice when we are able to find some information about the different dishes in the menu, but of course we can always ask the waiter if we aren't able to find the information that we are looking for. In some restaurants in my country there is a detailed description of the dishes in the menu, but other restaurants simply write the name of the dish. That is fine if you already know the dish, but if you don't know the dish the extra information is very useful. I think it great your friends invite you out for dinner and I am sure that they also enjoy the food that you cook for them in your home.

Last time, my parents and I went to the Chinese restaurant we used to go to, we order the lunch value meal, and I ordered my usual, and there is one more dish I would like to pick, but I was indecisive. Finally, the waiter came over and recommend us about this Tofu dish with a lot of veggie in it. When it came out, my parents and I hate it the most, and we shouldn't listen to him. I might pick my own as well. Oh well, I remember that I shouldn't pick this dish at all next time.

Sometimes it is dangerous to listen to the waiters when they recommend dishes, because there is no guarantee that you will like the dish just like you and your parents experienced when you ordered that Tofu dish. Next time you know which dish to avoid. I have eaten Chinese food many times, but I don't think that I have tasted the dish that you described. I also learned which Thai dish to avoid in the future. I have had many other nice Thai dishes, and I wasn't afraid to try an unknown dish, but in the future I am not going to order that dish because I simply couldn't eat it.

I eat just anything there is at a restaurant except those that contain too much uric acid. Having gout arthritis, I have to avoid legumes, internal parts of meat, fat, etc...and etc. However, I can't help it sometimes and just eat some more often than not.

I don't know much about your illness, but I can imagine that it can be tempting to eat the food that you aren't supposed to eat at least sometimes. My husband is a similar situation and he has to avoid certain kinds of food because of an illness. Sometimes he breaks the rules and eats some of the food that he isn't supposed to eat, because he finds it too tempting, but the most of the time he tries to avoid that food because he is afraid to get ill again.

I have learned a lesson about picking a dish I don't know well. A few times I have enjoyed trying the new dish but usually not, and, it was a waste of money if I did not like it.
If I feel brave enough to try a dish I will make sure I know the ingredients in the dish so that way I should know if I will like it or not!
I've never even tried Thai food before. I don't know what spices that uses or if I would enjoy that kind or not.

It is a good idea to check the ingredients of the dish before you make your decision. When we know the ingredients it is easier to know if we will like the dish or not. In some restaurants we find a description of the dish in the menu, and that is a great thing if we don't know the dish, otherwise we can always ask the waiter about for information about the dish. I have eaten Thai food several times. There used to be a very nice Thai restaurant in the city where I was born. I liked their food a lot and I never had a dish that I didn't like, but when my friend and I visited the other Thai restaurant I didn't like the food all because of the spices that they had used in the dish.

Yes, I definately learned something the experience. I think that there are many nice Thai dishes, but I have also learned that there are a few dishes that I don't like and don't want to order again.
