So, you guys remember when the crazy roommate moved out. We decided to turn that room into a guest room. First we had to clean it, lordy but she left it filthy! Then we painted it - purple... actually, we got Kilz and got it tinted purple, came out pretty nice too. Both ceiling and all, well, the ceiling is white, but the room is purple. Now, we have 4 empty bookcases, some of the kids toys and the new roommate's organ in there. Today, the bed came! Of course, its all in pieces... still, its here. I tell you want, that nephew is going to EARN those bucks this weekend! 3 boxes, one for the futon mattress, one for the twin mattress and the other for all the metal bits! I'm rather excited myself... What do you think?

Yes, i do remember & i think i told u good riddance, lol. I can't stand filthy people.I bet the room looks really pretty. Purple is one of my favorite colors. Hope your nephew gets it all done for him. U are lucky to have a nephew. Sadly i never got the chance to be an aunt.

Allergies are another good reason to keep the door shut. It just changes things up a bit to have that option.

I mean, she showered every day, washed her bedding frequently, I just can't figure out how she let the room get that bad! I don't have a nephew, I have the roomie's nephew. I do have a niece, but she's so allergic to cats she can't come over. I mean, the nephew is also allergic to cats, but not like my niece. We try to let him do most of the work away from the critters...

It sounds fun and exciting. One of these years I may have a spare room. I could always hope. You will enjoy the space, I am sure.

well, we will keep the door shut unless we have guests over, even if the guests are just the kiddos...

I wish that I also have guest room for visitors who visited me from the city where I came. Im uncomfortably to offer my sofa as their bed but they are the one who want to sleep there.

I love it and I love purple too! I always wanted an extra bedroom but can't really afford it. It would be nice to have a spare when my granddaugher comes over to sleep. It would give me more room too, for extra craft stuff I just don't know what to do with. Who knows though, maybe one will come up that I can afford, you just never know. I bet you are excited and I think it's going to look great!

I think it will be fun to have a room just for the space and a place we don't have to worry about making the space to get some one visiting in. When we are done, we'll post pix!

I didn't do it, the roomie's niece in law was here and stepped in and did it - yes, we paid her for doing it, but she was just disgusted by the room... Yeah, its a cute bed...

did you choose purple or mauve because purple is the color of eggplant and that is quite dark, mauve or lilac is much lighter.

I chose something closer to violet, that being my favorite shade of purple. and the roomie doesn't like light walls because she can see her floaters and they look like bugs to her.

That's a lovely looking guest bed. I have the bottom bit on it's own in my lounge room. Sometimes it's a sofa, sometimes a bed. It's good for when I don't want to be at the computer any more and there's a good movie on. I can go in there and snuggle under the covers and promptly fall asleep. The more I want to watch the movie, the faster I fall asleep. LOL. Did you mean the organ belongs to the totally blind roomie? If so, I'm impressed all over again.

I can understand a piano tuner but I am still impressed by anyone who does not have to look at notes or keys. I've been here around 6 years and my typing has not improved one bit. I still use 2 fingers and I have to look at the keys.

Yes, the organ is the totally blind roommate's. But you don't have to look at the keys to play a keyboard any more than to look at the keys to type. Back when I played the piano I didn't look at the keys.

Actually, I might add, many piano tuners are blind.

I have never had a spare room to turn into a guest room but I do enjoy remodelling, my parents are fixing up this little place they got and it is amazing how cleaning, repainting and refitting things will change a home, even if in the same colour as before. The couch/double bed/bunk bed is a great option, I had seen them before and always though it was a very practical space saving option as it allows for the bed to be in a room without taking up the space of a bed. It should look great when it is done. Have fun finishing the room.

If anyone ever visited me I might need a guest room, but I don't need to worry about that. I do have two sitting areas, though they have love seats, not a full size couch.

We generally sit in either the kitchen or the roomie's room, so we don't really need a sitting room, a guest room would give us another option.

Wow it sounds as if it is coming along nicely! Is the purple a dark, medium or light color. I would love to see pictures of the finished project. I hate that your ex roommate left the place in such shambles. It sounds as if you are turning it around though.

Sounds like a big job. I never thought of having kilz tinted. I've always used it as a base coat and painted my color over it. So I guess you don't need the income a new room mate would bring in? I can understand how reducing the number of people in your house would make a calmer environment.

Its better than an air mattress on the floor like we are college students - nothing wrong with an air mattress, but if our guests are also over 50 off the floor is good.

It is convenient to have an extra room. Mine is a multi purpose room. I have my desktop computer and my sewing machine in there. It is a home office when I need it and a guest room when we have company.

At this point all the original bedrooms are now not being used as bedrooms. This room is still the guest room, but right now full of other stuff. One room is supposed to be a media room, but currently used for storage and the last one is my bead/craft room.

I have always wanted a guest room, but I would probably have it filled with junk anyway. When I was married, we had a spare bedroom, but between the exercise equipment and extra things in there, there wasn't much room. We had a couc that folded out to a bed, and barely had room for that, and when it was pulled out, there was just enough room to get around it. It should be nice once you get it all together. Very few things come together anymore, so it is good that you have someone to do it for you!

This room is tiny, so we can't put much in it, the bed will be the largest piece, at least it doubles for sitting and sleeping - that's why we got it. Now, if the nephew and his wife have a fight with her mother, they have a free place to crash.

I really like that bed. It's very nice. And purple is such a great color. There was a house I use to drive by that got sold and the new owners painted it purple. It was a pretty big two story house on the corner of a street. It was odd to see because I never saw a purple house before. I have seen a purple room and it does look pretty. And when I visit I like sitting in a kitchen, too. It just seems like a nicer place to be. I think it's friendlier. And closer to the teapot! Have fun fixing up the room. And of course, everyone wants to see pics.

Yeah, and once we start getting it together I'll start taking pix, but right now its mostly just a play room when the great-niece and nephew come. After the bed's together it'll be more. In fact, this weekend we'll need to take the tv that's in there out so it doesn't get broken.

I have a crafting room, we call it the bead room, but so far I've done more sewing and present wrapping in it.
