Do you think Writers should wait for the inspiration?

For 2 years now I tried, but my story gets better when I wait for the inspiration to come, even if it comes 2 months from now. Now professionals often says that we must just write but I literally can only write cr*p when I force. Anyone write only when inspired? I'm talking about a story, an alternative universe you created, with your own carachters or fanfiction for example.
Thanks Writers!

If you really like writing, you don't need to wait until you get the inspiration. Of course, it's easier. But this office depends of much more than that. You need a knowledge of the language you use to write, you have to think about the story you want to build up and you should make research too. So for the first and the third point you don't need the inspiration. Making a research maybe the inspiration comes on its own.

Exactly, and remember that professionals are already used to write based on an extended writing experience. So for those writers, it might seem to be easier to turn the mind on writing, they already have a method and don't need to wait to the inspiration. It's just enough to get the idea to start writing, as almost every book needs a previous research. With enough material and information, it's easier to write what you want.

I think that when it comes to writing you have to be in a proper mood to do it properly even if it is a short article. So for a story, you need to be inspired and have some really good ideas in my opinion. The environment will also affect the writer. It is best to be in quiet surroundings and comfortable settings.

Hey there GrKelly, thanks for coming and your tips. Indeed the quiet enviroment can operate miracles . I'm indeed finding out just now (it took a long while) that when it comes to a story that you create entirely (not fanfiction or based in anything someone else did) it really comes down to when the inspiration hits, and it doesn't matter if I'm only going to continue 6 months later, it's like art and we have to write with love and that magical inspiration.
WaterSprite, wow, you said the right words: I got what I wasn't expecting. It was disapointing but hey professional authors were saying so I did it...it differs from person to person, it doesn't work for me. I need to be inspired indeed

Quite right, it's no good trying to think about any tpoic when you know at the back of your mind there are several other important things you must do. you have to clear those things out the way and dedicate a chunk of time. Even then you many not be in the mood, in which case write anything, you might find a gem you weren't expecting.

i am in same footing as you are. i am out for more than two months now. and i think that i will soon write again... well to finish the whole thing that is.
i understand what you have been through and going through. i just hope that we will finish what we have written before all the icebergs in antartica melts.

So sometimes you stay 2 months without inspiration? I heard about writing everyday or trying even without inspiration from professional writers, I gave that a try for 2 years, it didn't work for me then I read about amateurs, wannabe authors that have a writer's block of months long and I understood them. I think it's different from person to person, thanks I'm so glad you are in the same page. thank you.

It goes without saying that it is the inspiration that is converted to whatever form of writing. Without inspiration one cannot get matter for writing. I dabble in poetry sometimes and suddenly out of the blue I get to do it. I write for Iwriter and here too there are days I just cannot work on any project.

When it comes to writing articles on request there is a time limit and therefore they cannot be our best. I also write for magazines and there I have time to edit and polish what is submitted there. As far as poems go I am proud of them. I have a few now and hope to write more. Waiting for inspiration!

Hi
Sometimes some writers are inspired by some experiences in their life and write the story. But Some some writers don't need inspiration they write stories by their imagination power. They have many good ideas in their mind, and they can write nice stories. I think imagination power is a God gift. Everyone don't have writing skills.

That's interesting, never thought about all the people not having this gift. I actually wanted to write before I could read and thought it was we are born with but indeed: when I learned I was constatly writing so became better with time so anyone can write and practice makes one better.

no, if i waited until i had inspiration, i would be waiting forever sometimes. when i have ideas, i jot them down and then when i have a dry period, i refer back to those bit of inspiration. i write non fiction though.
my daughter has tried her hand at fan fiction and is always inspired.
write down ideas as they come to you and when you are ready to write, chances are you have a fair amount of stuff to pick and choose from.

Hello katie. I think we can write better if we have inspiration. With inspiration, the story we write will be more interesting and readable to readers. Have a good day, katie.

Do you post your story online , I started a story two years ago but I also waited for inspiration . Couple days ago I start writing again because I was inspired after my mother red my fist chapter and she like it but she is my mother so I was thinking of posting it online . I need a lot of editing and grammar check though lol .
If I could do anime we would start a anime series online . Good luck with your writing

Yes, I do most of the time write when I feel inspired about something really good and I think that I should write about it. That is when my best writings come about. I too, do find when I write without inspiration it doesn't come out great and it turns out like crap and I'm like uh...really...?

Hi katie: I am in a middle point between these two positions. I think we should wait for inspiration but we can also have an active role at looking for that source of inspiration. Thinking about the stories we hear in our daily life or remember a dream or a though can be good exercises to find the right inspiration to keep writing.

Writers should indeed wait for inspiration to come. Without inspiration a story gets very boring and lifeless. The writer do always need inspiration.

That's great. I read 2 years ago 2 known authors, they are successful and in different words their advice was to always write, even without inspiration and I tried that, I really did and I found this boring thing you were talking about indeed! I'm back to the way I write my whole life: when inspired only.

A friend of mine and I used to write stories together. I would write a line then he would write a line etc. have you tried that? do you have anyone you could write with? This helps in a lot of different creative avenues. Hope this helps. Also, what kind of things do you read? Maybe you could start off writing about a theme or style that you like to read then go over/ edit etc later.
What about something like the Dragon software, where you speak your thoughts - that way its more like stream of consciousness writing...

I believe each writer has their own style, mood and cycles. It's easy to say to write every day even when you don't feel like it, but writing is not some chores that you can do even when your heart is not in it. I've tried writing without really feeling like it, because they say we should write first and edit later. But I also observe when I write without inspiration I tend to write rubbish, and then my inner critic will speak so loud in my head and all the confidence I've struggled to gain disappears. It's a cycle, I've seen myself like this before so I don't fret anymore. I don't force it now. I will resume writing at the proper time, when life (such as daytime tasks and family matters) allows me to, not necessarily with inspiration but more of out of a commitment to finish what I've started.
To conclude, I say we need inspiration to write beautifully but we can also choose to work on getting inspired, stay committed and stay consistent. With a strong commitment to our story, we can will ourselves to write regularly and inspiration will inevitably come.
