No experience? No job! No job?? No experience!

See how that works. Is getting a job harder than it was 10? 20? years ago. I would think so as population increases too.

Well, my dear friend, even if your topic is too short, but I understood what you wanted to say! I still do not agree that there is in the world shortage of jobs, because of population has been increased. The world, especially where I live (Italy) is experiencing one of the worst economic crises of the century. For example, I find myself without a job, and I arrived already at the ripe age of 37! What will be my future? Well who knows, but at the moment I do not see anything good "on the horizon"! There have been many governments, but perhaps no one has been able to take the necessary measures. Then in a country like mine, which is part of the European community, when some nation is in trouble (now the former Spain and Greece), it is always our duty to help them resolve their crisis.

Yes I have heard about problems in Europe. I am from London. More and more people are coming to U.K. I have already bumped into people from Spain that live here now and say want to start a new life here. I guess education is the only thing to keep us going.

Well there are jobs out there that don't require experience. I know they may not be dream jobs but rarely do people start off at the top of the ladder. It all requires patience and knowing where to start. You build your experience through jobs that don't require any, or very very little.

Yes i agree with that. But even a job like that. There will be so many applicants applying for that one job.

I agree, it is easier to have a job 2o years ago compared today, due to high standardization and population. So, every company are really trying to hire the best of the best.

They say that it is easier to get a job years ago, though today's job market has a lot to offer but there are plenty of applicants or job seekers. I agree that because of enlarging population, it is somewhat hard to get a job because of stiff competition. Also, we need to qualify to the needs of the company. Yet there are a lot of companies looking for fresh graduates or employees with no experience at all. They are those trainable ones and willing to accept responsibilities. I, for one, started as a rank and file, a basic employee, I work hard and gained some necessary experience to a higher position. Good thing the company is so supportive to our needs. Good luck to all of us.

Yes i agree there is more to offer. Especially online..."My lot". However online isn't for everyone. I live in Britain and our unemployment is much higher than before. Thank you for your experience.

I know exactly how you feel. The job market will always be tough and evolving, and it seems like old entry level jobs now want experienced personel. There are always a few places that will not need you to have a past experience in their field of work, an example of this is the military. Good luck with any job you may be seeking! By the way, welcome to myLot.

This is true. And recently, my brother-in-law told his eldest daughter that the only hope a school-leaver can have a nice, cushiony job these days is if she/he has a higher education compared to the competition. For this reason, most high-school leavers I know these days are in a race to enter any graduate or training school which offers them a place to further their studies. Other young people who couldn't continue their studies get experience by doing 'small' jobs such as waiting on tables, opening food stalls, or shop assistants. if they're patient and work hard, their chances for a promotion or better jobs are higher.

I know exactly how you feel , thats how I was when looking a job . They keep asking for experience but none will give me a chance to gain that experience so I had to volunteer .

It's not like that. It always depends on the interviewer on how you sell yourself. It doesn't matter if you have no experience yet, what's important is that you're eager to learn and serve the company. The interviewer should feel it... mm...

Also, with an increased population and an increased need for jobs, getting creative and starting your own business, or figuring a way to work for yourself is becoming easier and easier these days. The opportunities in today's world are virtually endless. I understand times are tough. But you have to be willing to work hard. Nothing is free. Not even making a living or earning income is free...

theguy03: Actually, the military now requires so many college credits to get in. And that could be considered experience. That's at least a semester as a full time student. Me and my fiance got lucky and got in through the military academy we went to, even though we did not meet the college credits requirement. But not everyone can make it through the rigorous academy we went to. So to say the military doesn't require experience is incorrect. And in the civilian world, for most jobs you now need to be 18, or a high school diploma. Very few places will accept high school students. And if they do, they will chose the high school graduate over the high school student. There is a misconception that age and education means you are more mature and more qualified. In many cases, yes, age and education can make you more qualified. But not always. For many jobs, anyone can be trained. There is simply an issue of many people not wanting to do jobs that require much work with little pay. A lot of people want small work with big pay. And that is why "there are no jobs" or "it's hard to find a job." Yes, it is harder to get hired these days. But if you're willing to work even the seemingly meaningless, small jobs, and jobs that require lots of work and don't pay much, then you increase your chances of getting a job.
