My wife wants a transistor radio.
I really want to give her a new one and I'm looking online for a nice transistor radio as she requested for it.
She loves to listen to her favorite radio program everyday even at night. Don't know what makes her prefer this old version of radios. Though I know that these are the pioneer in electronic communication device way back 1950s and it's kind of durable.
Should I give a transistor radio? or an Ipod that she never requested for it?
Do you give old things to your loved ones same like my wife is requesting? or rather give the new version of that thing?
Oh, before I forget, we are in our 30's
Please share.

Sometimes people prefer simplicity and nothing was more simple,by comparison to our technology, than the 50s......its a comfy feeling, like it belonged to our grandparents and their era....and who doesnt love their grandparent's home.
Go for the genuine article because it obviously means something to her.

Awww, well aren't you the nice guy! That is so nice to hear of someone who is thinking of getting his wife a gift and not complaining of something, haha.
For sure get her the transistor radio because that is what she wants. I know it probably doesn't sound like much to you in this day and age, but fun stuff like that is such a wonderful gift for someone who really wants it. I'm sure you can find one on Ebay.
I had a little yellow transistor radio that I received back in the 60's for my birthday. I think it was an Emerson and was just adorable. All my friends loved it and it played pretty great for that time!
Who cares if you're in your 30s! My kids love that old time music because it's still so popular, and one is 44 and the other is 39. Just have fun in your 30s and don't worry about what other people think. We're all different with different likes.

Hi mikyung, I would, if my loved one insist to possess an old model device. I think he or her certainly having the reason to own the old model device, if the reason is acceptable If not, anyway I would try my best to explain to him the advantages as well as convenience of the new version device. Further more as the young age of 30's there won't be any problem to cope with the advanced device like Ipod touch or nano, etc I suppose
Happy posting

Yeah, although advanced technology device is attractive, yet not saying that every one loves it. Just like my husband's elder sister she feels comfortable to listen to her favorite radio station with the old transistor that she is familiar with and finds no problem to operate it Really in one's eye the best gift is the stuff he or she falls in love with, no matter the model is old or advanced. So it's wise to please him or she with what he or she longs for

I say search for a transistor radio for her, that is what she wants. An Ipod may be nice but she'd rather hear things like they were in the 1950's, and you cant' do that with an IPOD.
Good luck on your search though, hope you can find something soon.

I'm with SomeCowgirl - get her exactly what she wants and she'll appreciate the effort. Maybe you can even throw in a couple of other 50s items. I'm sure there out there - good luck!

Being a woman, I can honestly say you are better off getting her what she asked for. The last thing you want is to make her think that what she wants isn't important to you.
Maybe she prefers the idea of the transitor radio as opposed to an ipod of whatever. We have a transitor radio in my grandmother's house and it still works great to this day, and its older than I am (and I'm gonna be 35 in 2 days). Not everyone likes these new inventions.
And by the way, age has nothing to do with it , just because you guys are in your 30's doesn't mean that you [b]need[/] to use these new technologies. Just because everyone else does, doesn't mean you have to. Maybe your wife is one of those people who likes to have things from the past.
Have you ever noticed that things from back in the 50's era tend to last longer than things made these days ? Not just radios, but cars, furniture, appliances, etc...
Good luck, hope you find a nice transitor radio for her

Wow I kinda relate to her in some way. Give her a transistor radio because she will truly appreciate it, I think, rather than an iPod. Maybe you can find some transistor radio sellers online.

I think I would get her the radio. It will be a cool collectible for her. If my partner asked for something older, I would look for it. I think that it's nice to get the new updated stuff too but it won't be the same as the radio if that's what she really wants.

I was just wondering yesterday whether I still had my old record played. I have lots of vinyls from the 50s and 60s, but not all of them can be played in the oldest record player I have in use.

Hi mikyung, your such an wonderful husband for thinking about your wife wants. I think you should buy the old radio that she wants because it rare and for sure she will love it. Or you can also buy both so that she have the old and new version of radio. What do you think? Have a wonderful night.

OK, besides getting the transistor radio - here's a thought - also find a turntable and some old 1950's albums!! Hopefully the records will have skips and scratches for the real authentic sound.
