Going out in Public with Soaking Wet Hair

At the mall today I was standing behind to girls in line at Tim Horton's and they were talking really snotty to each other about people that were walking by. There was a lady that walked by with really wet hair and these girls kept talking about how inappropriate she looked, etc. I hate observing people being so critical of others, it makes me that much more self concious. Is going out into public with wet hair really that bad? Do you ever do that? Thanks for commenting.

I don't like people behaving this way either. As for going out with wet hair..well, not VERY wet hair but I have been known to do so if it was too warm to use a hair-dryer. I quite like my hair being dried naturally outside anyway, so long as it's warm enough!

I prefer to dry my hair naturally as well, blow drying it makes my hair dry and frizzy which doesn't look good on me.

Lol yes, I know what you mean. Mind you, when it gets cold here a hair-dryer does come in handy as it would probably take all day to dry, even with the heating on. Lovely today though so no need for my hair-dryer.

Did you happen to notice whether these two fashion critics were themselves looking good,or could someone have started picking on their look that day? Was it raining outside that this lady might have been caught without a hat or umbrella on her way in? Could it have been an intentional wet look, say, done with Gel,or did it look as though She'd jumped out of the shower and gone straight to the Mall without drying off? As you say, this sort of behaviour might make someone self conscious if they knew it was being directed at them..and at the same time, they might not be at all bothered what others thought,She was doing her own thing... As a Guy with Short hair,I think I could pretty much leave the house after a shower with wet hair and have it dry on the way where I was going..but I'd always towel dry first anyway,I'd never be in so much of a hurry that going out with wet hair would be an option-getting wet hair while out may be a possibility..but as the saying goes, there's no such thing as bad weather, just poor choices of clothing!

I have to be honest, the two fashion critics were pretty young women. I think it's just an age thing and phase they were going through, I'm sure when they are presented to the real world they might understand a thing or two.

NO, I don't think it's bad to go out in public with wet hair, especially in a place such as the mall. I have long hair and it takes time to dry it after shower, so it's not uncommon for me to go out with wet hair. I don't like using a blower and would prefer to leave my hair to air dry. I find it ridiculous why these girls have to criticize people's appearances. It's not really their business to judge what's appropriate or not. Besides, they don't know the story behind the lady's wet hair. Her hair blower might have become suddenly defective, or she might be in a hurry to go out of the house. Those girls are really rude.

Yes they did sound pretty judgemental that's for sure. I never go out with soaking wet hair but sometimes it's damp because it's thick and takes a lot of time to dry on it's own.

I don't think anything is wrong with that. I also go out with wet hair because I have a long hair and it won't dry easily. But that is early in the morning, of course I don't know what other people might think if you walk with wet hair in the middle of the day.

Unless I'm just walking around outside of my apartment with my dog, I don't go out into public with soaking wet hair but sometimes it's damp because it takes so long to air dry itself.

if my hair is wet for long, i get a headache so its a big no for me. There are reasons why people do what they do so these girls have nothing better to do but critic others. The woman with the wet hair had her reasons why she could not wait to dry her hair maybe she had to rush to the mall for something urgent or maybe there was a black out in her house. The reasons are many and the beauty of life is that those girls saw someone with something to critic and forgot about her.

Yes sometimes people run into situations in life unexpectedly and don't have the time to stand infront of the mirror and blow their hair dry, maybe one day when these girls get to be that age they will understand.

I have long hair and it's always wet when I go out early in the morning. I'm not used of blow dry. for me My hair is beautiful when wet and if it's dry it's thick. So I don't mind if that girls make fun of my wet hair, they are just jealous because they can't carry wet hair looking nice and good than them lol. I love to see people with wet hair ,seems they are fresh and smells good. Mmmm...

Atleast if it's wet you know they are clean which is more than I can say for some of the people that I work with, they stink up the whole room and their stench gives me headaches.

must have been me they were talking about. i always leave my house with wet hair just because i let it dry naturally because its really curly and so if i blow dry it, it ends up looking weird. i don't care that i go out with wet hair (although it does get sort of cold in the winter!)

I go swimming and in a jacuzzi at my local sports center two to three times weekly. Today I went in the jacuzzi and had a shower afterwards. I tried to dry my hair a bit using my towel however it stayed wet. Off I went to my dance class with the wet hair. I am sure nobody minded. If I go swimming I often go home with wet hair. Also when it is rainy weather my hair does get wet.

Exactly. There are certain scenarios in life where we are not going to be what they call "picture perfect" 24/7, I suppose these girls must go to the gym and blow dry their hair after their shower in the bathroom at the gym.

That is ridiculous. I dont know why people have to look at everyone else and find something to pick on. People just need to mind their own business. I do not dry my hair if I dried it with a blow dryer it would get all frizzy. I let it dry on its own and if its not dry by the time I leave the house I would go out with wet hair big deal. Maybe the woman had just come from getting her hair cut at a salon and it didnt have time to dry. I agree with you its not that bad. When I used to walk to school in the morning I would do my hair right before I went to school and in the winter it would literally freeze on the way and thaw out once I got in side lol.

Haha, I remember doing that a few times also where the ends of my hair would freeze like little chunks of ice. The funny thing, is that this seemed to make my hair less frizzy, it's like the ice literally froze my hair into place ..LOL.

In my opinion, going out to the public with wet hair are fine. In fact I've always do the same thing because I always rush going to school everyday. And I thinks its not a big deal to go out into the public looking like that. There's nothing wrong with it. :)

Atleast everyone would know you are clean, that in itself should gain some respect towards you.

I can't see any problems of having wet hair in public. If you are busy, doing all the errands and stuff. Why worry of what others think about you. At least, the lady has the sense of hygienic practice.

Exactly! I respect the fact that she is clean. A lot of people go out in public and make everyone suffer because they refuse to shower and they stink of up the whole room, I work with someone like this.

Hello friend In my opinion having wet hair in public is ok..:) I always go out with wet hair and I let it dry naturally..lol.. I don't use hair blower because my friend told me that it's not good to use it everyday.. I think those two girls are just nothing to do with their life..

If i go out with my hair wet,i would feel a bit awkward, but i think it's ok. Because in our life it's hard to keep a perfect image all the time. And if i go out and there're some people i don't know, i will behave more bravely. Since they don't know me, i can be more myself sometimes. And i really hate that kind of person which you mentioned above, that young girls. Maybe they look decent and even gorgous, but i think it's a bad habit to speak ill of somebody. This shows they don't know how to respect others, so however beauty they're, it will never win my respects. Anyway, it's necessary to show polite and be decent in public, but sometimes it's ok to be yourself. And as a lady, i guess we could forgive them more.

I do think it makes them look bad to stand there looking to pick people apart and judge them, I admit they were really nice looking girls but you could tell they spend a lot of time infront of the mirror.

Hi Jshean20, I would do that regularly if I am late and need to go and do not have time to blow dry my hair. I do not see anything wrong with it as long as the hair is not dripping too much water or completely wet.:)

Yes I think dripping might be a little drastic, as someone walking behind could slip and fall! LOL

no, not all as i been done as long as you already rub your hair with towel and no water is dripping by it goes as a natural look. n my place i see to it that go out with a wet hair so i feel cold since my place is very warm. also have a bulky har that easily get sway by wind, so having a wet hair as long as it is properly comb is nice to look and smell clean. though, this type of look s often seen at the beach, still it never change my mind going out with wet hair is pretty they would eventually get dried when expose to the sun, or wind.

Unless they can be disturbing and destructive to the public - that would be bad. And also it depends on the situation ,if it's raining outside, that would be reasonable or they may have their reasons. As long as they don't hurt anybody, I'm good with seeing people like that.
