Do you think it's fair to hate the secretary just because you hate the boss?

I have been working as an Administrative Assistant to the second highest official of our company. However, most of the senior staff have been complaining about him for being strict especially when it comes to work. I have been transferred to his office just a few months ago and I have been working with him finely and smoothly so far. Though I find him strict but for me, it's not a big issue because Japanese are known to be very particular with on time submission of tasks required. This what annoys most of the high ranking employees in our company. The problem is, when I am being asked by my boss to remind them of their tasks, they somehow ignore me as well. Some of them sometimes make me feel as if they hate me too. I am a very approachable, soft-spoken and friendly person and I don't know the reason why they hate me as well. Some would say that they hate me because they hate my boss. Is this what you call professional people? Hating the secretary just because they hate the boss? Of course I didn't work to please everybody but sometimes it's becoming so unfair on how they treat other people simply because they hate the boss! Have you experienced such a situation?

hi, cottonie, that's the risk of your job. all you have to do is talk to them and telling them that your boss is not as worst as they thought. may be they will ignore you, but at least you have tried to convince them, so if they keep on their attitude, just ignore them. they need time to know your boss's character better. and sooner if they had known your boss character, they will treat you better

Hello redvakaurvaki! Actually, I already did that thing. One time they kept on talking about how strict my boss is and why is it that I have the patience to work with him. Politely, I told them that I never had any problems with my boss since I started my job with him. He is strict but reasonable I believe. I know his rules especially work-wise and by following them, I don't think there would be any problems. I even explained to them that he is very open to suggestions and constructive criticisms because he believes, the success of a company depends on the teamwork of its workforce. I also said that I don't mind him being strict with deadlines because it's a way of learning proper time management. He is strict but very appreciative once the job gets done ahead or on time. But I guess, my explanation is not acceptable to them. They always say they are too busy to accomplish many things. Well, I did my part. And you are right, I just have to ignore them. Thank you again! :)

I have come to learn that there are people that are just obnoxious and it is not what you do, they will behave however they choose. Do your work well and you don't need to interact with them to be productive at your work.

for me i think i should not hate the secretary just because i hate the boss,it will depend upon the employee on how there mind are wide, for me i will never hate the secretary because i know that the task came from the boss and she only relay it to us.but of course the secretary should also relay the message with kindness.
