I was sewing today

That means I was out in my craft shed! I repaired a pair of the roomie's shorts that had a rather embarrassing hole. I also repaired a bed skirt of Maggiepie's because it had problems... Then I made a skirt for the new roommate - she likes it. AND, finally, I made the curtains for the guest room. I had to fiddle with the new skirt, so when I went back out there, I took my glue and put another row of corks on my door. Then, tonight the roomie wanted to get some chocolate - I know, we just went back on the diet... I got sugar free... Still, then she found some cute fabric and wants me to make some little dresses, just simple things like the bed skirt, only with straps. Actually, Maggie wants me to make some too... Sooner or later I'll get out there more... maybe when it isn't 100+

Hi Elic, I have made my office/guest room into an office/guest/sewing room recently since acquiring some of dad's furniture. I was quite pleased how well things worked out because it's the smallest room of my 3 bedrooms. Anyway, I was in my sewing room the other day and finally used my new over-locker that I purchased last May!!! I have to ask, what's a bed skirt?

Actually, I had made the skirt originally for Maggie to wear, but she's the one that decided to have them longer to wear at the hospital.

Its basically a skirt with elastic around the top, but longer than a regular skirt and made to be worn under the arms. It makes it easier for hospital staff to get to all their wires and stuff but more comfortable than a hospital gown and not exposing the back end.

Hope that you were able to get some of these projects done, and people were happy with all of it. If the dress thing looks nice, and not that hard, maybe an idea would be making some to Sell for some extra money? But all you expressed you were doing here sounds interesting for sure.

You are so lucky to have a shed where you do all your craft.I have all my craft bits stored in my conservatory, that way I do not have to look for where i put the things that I am looking for. I had to make a few cards for my mum that she wanted, as she was not well enough to go to the shop and she can not drive to get any, then the person and their friend who got the card wanted me to make more cards, as they also wanted some.

its almost nice enough to use for an extra room, if I didn't have it so crammed full of my crafting stuff. Still need to get out there and organize it better, and finish up. It needs some kind of window treatment just because I couldn't hardly sew since it was so bright with the sun coming in the window!

Hello elicBxn! It's good to have done something out of your own effort and people around you learned to appreciate it. I have also tried sewing but I can't make a dress or anything. I just do repairs like sewing a hole and closing it. I have never tried making one even a pillowcase. But i am looking forward to it. if i have the time, i guess. You're making dresses too? or just skirts and bedsheets?

Well, these "bed skirts" are basically a simple elastic skirt, but made to wear up under the arms for modesty, but still allow easy access for medical personal to do things with cords and the like. My client wears them at the hospital. The shorts I basically repaired a hole and repairing the bed skirt was hole mending, tightening the elastic and, because it was made from an old fitted sheet, taking off the "corner". These bed skirts are best when made from sheets.

it's good to sew when you are doing it in a good mood. specially if you are doing it for your loved ones, or people who learn to appreciate things, made out of your own hands as well.

Sounds like you had a productive time, though. It can be so fun to just sit down and make things.

I wish I could sew but I have never been good with anything to do with my hands.

I've always been kind of crafty, I prefer to just do pretty much straight lines!

I just started to learn hand sewing recently, and only learn how to make simple toys for my son. I wish to learn sewing by machine, I believe it's much easier and faster by using the sewing machine. My mum has always been asking me to learn sewing as she is a tailor but I do not know sewing at all, and all the altering of my clothes have been done by her and a lot more. My mum hopes that I can at least learn how to alter the pants or skirts.

I never figured out how to make a buttonhole, except by hand, and can't remember that now! I also never learned to put in a zipper, so I have to make things that don't require those things!

Wasn't it nice out there in your very own craft shed? And you got sooo much done! Wow, you are just such a busy bee, lol! I'm not to good at sewing, never was. I can do a hem and sew a button on, that's about it. And I like to put the hem on with that iron-on tape instead of sewing but if I have to I will sew it. Just never got the hang of it, even in school. You need to put up some photo's so we can see your creations.

I've made all but one set of curtains in the house, now, these are NOT drapes, just simple panels of fabric. Back when we made the office ready for the roomie, I made tab top curtains for the room - very LAZY tab top curtains...

I spend a lot of time at t e sewing machine, but I can't imagine doing it outside in 100 degree weather. Can you put an A/C in your craft shed?

Oh, yeah, it has an ac and a heater out there, in fact, when I had to run off to the store for something, I left the shed running so it'd be cooler when I got back!

I envy anyone that can sew. I took sewing in school and it made me ill. I would get so nervous when I had to sew something I would break out in a sweat and get light headed. I can sew by hand, but I am allergic to machines.

I can't say I sew that good. I seem to be cursed with a tension problem. It seems to always be wrong! But, I just keep doing it anyway!
