Bidding on Elance / myLot

Ever since joining Elance I have read numerous articles relating to Elance and how to land a job their. I have even created my profile but I think my bids are the problem. So my fellow mylotters please tell me how you guys do it. I really need to get some of these jobs. I have bidded on around 10 jobs and none of them chose me. The ones that got the job did not even complete their profile and it was not as impressive as mine. So please do tell me how to place my bids if you have any idea. Thanks!

Now I am not active on Elance myself, but I use both Freelancer and oDesk. But I am wondering if those who win the jobs are offering better prices? Unfortuately alot of employers want the job done as cheap as possible.
