If you work or live in a building do you think it is better to take the stairs or elevator? Last month I visited a friend who lives in a 25th story building. There are two kinds of elevator the odd and the even number. My friend live in the 20th floor and the even number elevator was not working. So no other way but to ride on the other elevator that only stop on the 19th and 21st floor. I decided to stop on the 19th floor and take the stairs going up I thought that it only take one long stairs to reach the 20th floor. I was surprised that I take 3 long stairs upon reaching the floor. Whew!!! I just thought I have a great exercise climbing the stairs.

Hi Lyn! I dislike waiting for the lift many a times, in my office. If I need to go to till third or fourth floor, I prefer taking stairs. I always climb down through stairs of my office in the evening. The elevator of my present office stops at each floor and I feel this way invaluable time is wasted in reaching the desired floor. Doctors always advice that climbing up and climbing down stairs is one of the best exercise for us. Have a great day.

Do you REALLY climb down the stairs in the evening? Or do you not want to admit that you slide down the banister?

One twelve-story building that I have to go into at least once per week has three elevators, & they are very busy. Being that I am also in a rush, I end up taking the stairs, because it is faster. If I have to carry a lot of stuff, I would take the elevator. It can be even more hectic & time consuming if one of the elevators were not working. I usually have to go from the lower level up to the twelfth floor, & every once in a while, the tenth floor. The times I have taken the elevator, I have seen situations where someone waited for the elevator only to the next floor, despite being perfectly capable of using the stairs. Three long stairs to reach the floor you wanted? Are you sure you got off on the right floor?

The building I work in has expanded over the time I've worked there, and the newer section has 4 Levels served by elevator and stairs..depending on whether I'm carrying or rolling something from one level to another,I might use the elevator on the way..but If I'm unencumbered on the way there or back,I'll take the stairs!

When I worked on the 3rd floor of a building with an elevator and stairs I almost always took the stairs up for exercise and to be alone instead of in the crowded elevator, unless I had something heavy to carry, that is.

hi lynboobsy wow you did get a workout for sure. reminds me'of the time when I had to get the county doctor to approve my going b back to work as I worked for the county branch library .well I could not find the elevator that was going up so I did not want to waste time as my ride was waiting for me so I saw the sign marked stairs and start d climbing and found I had five sets of stairs to get to the doctors office so was out of breath from all the stair climbing. she wanted to know why I was puffing and I told her I had to climb up the stairs as I could not find the darned up elevator. she said "Oh thats the reason., well I have okayed your going back to work after your gallbladder surgery.let me show you where the down elevator is." so I got to ride down' hich suited me as I had had surgery only two weeks ago.I was in my sixties then and had one leg in a brace .,

I always try to take the stairs. True 25 floors is overkill, but if I lived there I would try to climb the stairs as much as possible.

I think i won't be able to reach to that high. Surely my legs won't be able to stand anymore if i were to climb up to 25th floors....

I could take the stairs up to the third floor. When I was in my last trimester of pregnancy, I never took the elevator where ever I go. I just thought it was a good exercise for me and indeed it was. As long as we are healthy, enough, why take the escalator or elevators. Three floors would be fine in taking the stairs. It would tone our legs and firm our butts too.

I only take the lift as it will be trying to climb the stairs everyday. I lived in 6th floor and at work, I also have to go up to 6th floor. I couldn't just climb up the stairs, I'd be so sweaty and tired. But yeah that was good for you! at least once you had that exercise.

I normally would take the stairs, unless I was really exhausted or was carrying a lot of items. I know a lot of people now a days would take the easier way , and otherwise complain about it.

Sadly, in today society a lot of people are lazy, and why obesity is so high in ma ny countries. I feel a lot better when walking up the stairs, and sometimes if in a hurry, or that day is very packed with events I can have some exercise.

Where my son lives there is an elevator but I usually take the stairs because its only one floor up. I probably would take the elevator if it were that far up....and walk like you did.

Of course it kinda depends on the number of stairs, but generally I would take the stairs, rather than the elevator. I find it a challenge for my health condition. Maybe I would even just go take the stairs, see how far I get, then take the elevator. Then next times, try again and again to see how far I'll get and how much I'll improve. In the end, walking all those stairs will be a real peace of cake and that would make me feel proud. :D And on the other hand, I think elevators are fun. When I was a kid, I was always excited to use the elevator when I went to the city with my parents. I guess because where we lived, there weren't many elevators (like in shops - shops are much smaller in towns.)
