I think overall laptops are a better choice. But in some cases desktop computers are cheaper than laptops. It all depends on what you like, some people prefer a computer that they can just keep at home and don't have to put away or move from place to place, it becomes part of the house they live in. But then again a lot of people nowadays live an active life and appreciate the portable laptops.

The popularity of laptops has been steadily increasing for several years, but this is not the main reason for the higher pricing. Laptops require slimmer hard drives and CD or DVD drives, along with smaller components to keep the overall size down. After all, a large and heavy laptop is not very practical. This demands specific technology and therefore more expensive components etcetera.

Desktop and laptops have their advantages according to the use. Desktop are cheaper in price and their parts are cheaper than laptop parts. Laptops are just a bit costly but they give you mobility which desktop can't. You can increase the capacity of desktop by using higher end hardware. The new generation of laptops the ultrabooks are great but very costly.
I have desktop as my main computer , I do use my desktop as a TV with TV tuner card.

I own a laptop and a desktop, both of which have advantages.
The main benefit with a desktop computer is the ease of access to components. If you wish to add a tuner card or upgrade your audio or graphics then you open up the case add or replace the component. This could also be done with a laptop, but opening a laptop is not as easy. There is also the option of adding further hard drives, whereas a laptop would have the space available.
You could even upgrade the system by changing the motherboard, which in turn would provide the option of a better processor or greater RAM etcetera.

Well, acutally most youths are using desktop computers for gaming. You can also choose to use a desktop computer as a server instead of buying a server, if you would like to do that. Desktop computer parts are cheaper than laptop parts, becouse they are larger and easier to make (Low cost). Desktop computers can have a lot more of RAM(Memory), lets say that you have a desktop computer with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, you would be able to have 192GB of RAM! With this you would be able to host a lot of websites! Though, this is only useful when making a apaid host service. I think most people would buy a server instead of a desktop computer for their hosting. When it comes to gaming, young people like 16+ like to use them for that purpose. Desktop computers can have more RAM, bigger and also cheaper processor, and more powerful graphics card, motherboard and all other parts that's related to gaming. I hope you got a clearer vision about desktop and laptop computers now ;) Glad to help and inform :)
