How to use more than one tab at a time?

I came to know from the response to a discussion in mylot that some mylotters use more than one tab at a time and few even open as many as twenty tab at a time which enable them to work at different sites at the same time, thus saving a lot of time for them. Not being tech savvy at all and not even being familiar with the ABC of computer as well as the Internet, I have no idea what a tab is. Would any one be kind enough to explain what is meant by tab and how I can use more than one tab at a time? If possible, let me know also which browser is ideal for the purpose.

If you know about opening many windows and switching between them, tab is a simplified version of windows. If you are opening more than one site at the same time, you can see two tabs in your browser. And you can switch between tabs. (If your browser is Tab enabled.) Almost all new versions of browsers are tab enabled.
I'm posting here a screen shot of my Chrome and I have given some tips in the picture itself.
If you can't view the attached image, just see it here: http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk109/venkataraman_vc/chrometab.png (Not a referral link.) If your browser is tab enabled, you can see this picture opens in a new tab.

venkataraman_vc, I am not sure whether or not my browser is Tab enabled. How can I know it?
