Hi
Music or music videos are the intergral part of any Indian movie. The trend is there since beginning.
May be in very olden times a story would have been enacted through a stage play, where the story would have been carried forward through acting and singing songs in between.
Probably that trend was carried over to Indian movies and since it is well received and appreciated by audience, it is still going on.
A story could be told or say enacted without songs but there are very few Indian movies which are produced without songs.
Good discussion.

you are right dpk.
early in India, centuries before, stories where told by singing and acting. people loved stories being told in the form of music and songs and dance.
Where i stay, this form of stories is called Sangeet natya,(means singing drama). and i love watching this performed by local people around.
