I think a lot of you would have read about the recent earthquake in Yunnan, China and I find this rather disturbing because since the big earthquake in Szechuan 4 years ago, earthquakes have been occurring around my country almost every year.
I know a lot of you may say that this is just another natural disaster but I don't think we should easily accept it since earthquakes were never common until recently. I am guessing that we might have done some damages to the nature in my country.
I am guessing here but I am sure there must be answers for such occurrences. I hope that we could come up with it, so that we could do something to prevent such disasters from happening again.

from the title above, i do not think so. we cannot stop natural disaster for it will occur naturally. but i guess, some improvised gadgets would be invented that could detect so likely to happen. this way, even we cannot stop the earthquake, some precautions would be implemented to avoid or prevent people to get hurt. knew some buildings that used some bearings in the walls of it so that when the ground shakes, it will just sway.
for me, it can be detected, or safety precautions would be made to avoid damages or may risks lives but earthquake is a natural disaster that cannot be avoided if would likely to happened in the future.

For me yes,
because engineers are keep finding ways how to avoid Earthquakes, Tsunamies, and others., technology are raising, developing, and keep on improving, sooner or later there will be a technology that will protect us from everything :D

I agree with you that we don't pay attention to protect our environment and now we have the revenge. Especially I read some negative comments after building the Sanxia Dam. It seems that the earthquakes happens more often than before after this dam is finished. And the weather has become strange, too. I don't know how to improve this situation as it seems that our officers don't care about it. They just care about the money.
I love China

I don' t think that we could ever get rid of these natural disasters. what we can do though is to strengthen the construction of buildings to eliminate damage during earthquakes. as for tsunsmis, i think living as far as possible from rhe shorelines can also prevent from having too many people being killed by it.

Hi friend, sad to hear about this earth quakes, i think we don't have the ability to stop earth quakes, as we don't have the ability to predict when will an earth quake will attack a place, then how can we stop it? it's quite hard to predict about nature and stop the natural disasters. We can avoid pollution and spoiling environment as much as we can to control this kind of disasters

I live in England and we don't have earthquakes. I am very keen on traveling to different countries. Earlier this year I visited my dear friend that lives in Chile. I stayed at her home for a week. One night whilst there me and my children were asleep. We woke up in the night really scared because an earthquake happened. I imaged it was a very bad dream as the bed was shaking and everything around us. I got back to sleep and in the morning my dear friend confirmed an earthquake happened in the night time. She looked for details on her computer. She told me from that information the earthquake had been 6.3 on the richter scale.
A couple of days later in the daytime my dear friend was sitting in her garden. I was inside her house. A slightly stronger earthquake happened. I felt really scared because all the glass windows and door were shaking. Later that day my dear friend checked her computer for details. It had been an earthquake of 6.8 on the richter scale. I am glad my dear friend lives in a strong house. She said if we had been in Haiti buildings would have fallen down. There in that country we might have been killed or hurt. My dear friend had a 9.2 on the richter scale earthquake a few years ago.
Chile is a wealthy country. Earthquakes are a natural disaster. I don't think earthquakes can be stopped. Strong buildings are necessary.

Well to be very honest natural disasters are nearly impossible to be avoided. they can cause terror at any time without any prior information.
Coming back to the earthquakes, they are always predictable and can never be predicted with accuracy. But i think the recent rise in the felling of the trees and forest puts a lot of pressure on the land surface and that is also one of the possible reason of earthquakes.
What say?

I think its near impossibility due to the nature of earthquake that are very unpredictable. Maybe sooner or later, scientist and geologist may invent a device that can predict earthquakes but AVOID such catastrophic event, that would be a miracle if it will materialize.
