Hello,
I am trying to understand how Jesus used to pray since he was born in a Jewish culture. The Jews at those time were mostly orthodox. I have recently come across a book by a Jewish Rabbi Hayim Halevy Donin 'TO PRAY AS A JEW' http://www.amazon.com/To-Pray-As-Jew-Synagogue/dp/0465086330 . While going through this book I realized the similarities between orthodox Jew and Islamic prayer. For example the prayers of the Jews involve wash before the prayers, (like Wuduu or ablution for Muslims), and the call for Prayers (like the Azan for the Muslims). This along with the similar postures while praying.
I would like to mention that I am not posting this in order to create any hate rather I am looking for similarities between all Abrahamic religions. So please keep this discussion meaningful.

Jesus rejected much of the rigid teachings of Judaism, stressing rather the importance, not of the law but of the spirit of the law. And he states, "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man." Matthew 15:11 KJV
What he teaches is that it is not rigid adherence to the law that is important but loving God and man.
Often alone
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. Mark 1:35 KJV
...And after bidding them farewell, he departed to the mountain to pray. Mark 6:46
There are other example of him leaving to pray alone, sometimes throughout the night.
On at least one occasion well deeply troubled he fell to the ground to pray

Reading the Bible both its Old and New testaments can give us some idea about how Jesus Christ and all other biblical Prophets prayed.
Genesis 17:3 KJV
And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him.....
Exodus 11:8 KJV
God Said to Moses " And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me

Exodus 34:8 KJV
And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.

Joshua 5:14 KJV
... And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship ...

1 Samuel 20:41 KJV
And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.
Psalm 95:6 KJV
O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker
there are more verses in the Old Testament of the Bible but I cited few of them, now If this is How Previous Prophets Prayed, What about The new Testament and Jesus? How did Jesus pray?
Matthew 26:39 KJV
And he (Jesus) went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
as we can see, Bowing down and prostration to The God was the common practice By Jesus and All Biblical prophets "Peace Be Upon Them all" which means that if someone don't prostrate while praying we can't assume that he is really praying.
The question now is: Do Christians really pray?

No, the question is do Muslims really pray, to recite prayers by rote is not really praying, to pray from the heart, that is real prayer

Because first and foremost Ishmael (the ancestry of the people embracing Islam) and Isaac (the ancestry of the Jews) came from the same father who is Abraham. For most part they could have seen what their father did during his time. So the possibility of being similar is not remote.
But to your question, I don't think Jesus was ceremonial. I don't think He practice the way tradition did. I believe He was conversational and relational. Having said this, His way of praying is just like talking to someone who is in front of you.
Jesus was never religious He even defied the religiosity of His day, and religion in general.
The thing with Jesus is He always encourage us to come as we are, we don't need to be "clean" physically, emotionally, or spiritually to pray. Jesus is different.

that is true , He Almighty said in the holy Quran :
"Allah has not taken to Himself any son, there is no other god with Him. Were this otherwise each god would have taken that which he created, and some of them would have risen above others; Exalted is Allah beyond that they describe!"
Al-Muminun-91
" Had there been gods in heaven or earth, other than Allah, both would indeed have been ruined. Exalted be Allah, Lord of the Throne, above that they describe." Al-Anbiya -22

Yet God himself says
"And lo a voice from heaven, saying , This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased "
So, hear the Quran is wrong, since the voice of God contradicts it

Greetings naseem00. I could understand that you are trying to understand how Jesus pray in comparison with other Jews born under Jewish culture. And then mentioned of similarities between Orthodox Jew and Islamic prayers. If you have read in the Bible how Jesus pray, you would see that Jesus pray with the heart rather than with the mouth. Jesus prays and teaches with authority rather vain repetitions and from commandments of men. If I will judge Jesus' manner of prayer, I will go with their results rather than with human traditions. Cheers.

Hello my friend greetings. Praying with the heart can (only) mean, what is it that you want to say to God direct and foremost. Your most pressing need that you want God to answer and act upon. No rote memorized prayers. No long and vain repetitive prayers. Which bible verse that suggest this, Well, if you have read in the bible the prayers of Jesus, most of the results are surprisingly immediately answered and acted upon by His God and Father. It is said that God looks on the heart. Maybe this one is also true, Some people honored me with their lips (mouth) but their heart is far from me. Peace be with you brother.

And foremost the Islam were closely related in the old and the beginning but in the end were differ, yest its closely related on how they act on prayer and Islam were from the tribe off abraham still but Jesus Demonstrate His prayers in weeping with knee bow down in the silent mount, and He is the one worthy Lamb of God who take away the sins of the earth, Jew and Gentiles were not all following the old one's we have now direct contact through the LAMB of God who offer for us we do Christians pray anywhere anytime and its up to us to communion with our GOD daily.

Jesus pray sincerely alone when no one can disturb him between him and his father in who are in heaven.
