In china family parties are organized to celebrate family occasions, including happy occasion like wedding and sad occasion like funeral. These occasions are always held in hotel. All family members attend and have a dinner together. Whether happy or unhappy parties, i think the main purpose is to reunite all family members and keep alive the bonds tie a family together.
