Have You Noticed Your Writing Skills Improved?

Hello guys - just a simple question for today! Have you noticed your writing skills improved through frequent writing? Does myLot helped you nurtured your skills in forming refine statements or sentences perhaps?
Have you tried reading your previous post and compare the difference? Can you type now without worrying what you are going to write in your post editor?
Answer should be yes! Before, when I was going to write a post, or article, or essay, it would take me time before finally writing down the paragraphs, but now I can easily write them in few minutes before I can directly write what I think appropriate!
In other words, I can type while I think what should be written! Before, I must think hard first before I can type a sentence - this alone is a solid evidence that my writing skills have improved.
How about you dear friends?

hello brother,
I don't see any changes
I mean, in my writing (hahaha)
Kidding aside, yes, there's a big difference since I've started mylotting.
After 4 years I can say that, I've learned a lot, improved a lot.
Hope I am not getting worse

Hello dear Sister, am so happy to hear that! You are excellent, I won't question your style ever!
@aparajita - no the number only signifies your contribution, the accumulation of your posted topics and responses, but your earnings are solely base on your active participation!, so don't worry you can earn as much my Big Sis earnings!

@ aparajita,
yep, number doesn't matter when it comes to earnings.
It's not about quantity but quality post.
Sometimes I don't pay attention with my postings especially with my friends topic.
I wrote one line and the conversation goes on

Yeah - sometimes follow up comments doesn't matter if it's written one line, I guess Sis the most important is your main topic, and main response... what do you think?
But about quality over quantity - it's the general rule that users must pay attention!

Hi prime! Perhaps I need to go over my old posts so that I may know the difference. I am glad you have started this discussion. Although I am not a professional writer, I have been preparing some documents in the office that requires some writing skills. Like preparation of minutes of meetings and letters for other stakeholders. That is why I can say the I have been writing since.
But with the interaction to different friends in myLot, I know that I've learned a lot of things about other people's culture and practices which somehow made me think that my stay is worth the time and effort. Not to mention the friendship I was able to build with everybody around.
Happy myLotting!

Hello Aries, thank you for appreciating this topic! You know, way back 5 years ago, I could hardly write post and respond topics! But now, I can do it easily but I wont claim a professional writer as well! The most important is - we can write like professional if we want to!

Mostly I write slowlier than before becaue my eyes and joints are worse. But I´m a writer in my native language and have enough command of English so as to think what I want to say quicker that what my clumsy fingers do. So, my writing skill have not mechanically improved, but they remain the same otherwise.

Hello guys, I'd say you are lucky for having English as you mother tongue, and for having English as our universal media for communication! Me, I would admit that English is tricky, yeah, it's not always easy to construct sentences and expression like native speakers do... but am trying hard. Am trying hard to sound like anyone else who can gracefully express themselves though writing!
Hatley, thanks to spell checker here too! Am using firefox too! Or I guess myLot post editor has build in checker in it, what do you think?

Hello :),
Since I started commenting and posting here on mylot and other websites, I noticed that my english had improved but I think my skills in writing is not that really good yet. I got used of words short cuts and abbreviation ( s ds ur pn? (pen), LOL) and now I kind of keep on forgetting the correct spelling of a word. That's what I am trying to correct now, I am having a hard time remembering a correct spelling sometimes and even if I remember it, I get confuse and write the wrong spelling instead.

LOL, practice writing the correct spelling of every word every time you write responses, and you will just discover some time in the near future that you are used to it! Anyway, am not really perfect about my grammar, but what matters most is - I can easily express myself!

Yeah I think my writing skills are improving day by day working on writing sites. As it need more and more and better and better write ups everyday everyone who is just out of interest or professionally do writing must be watching his performance being enhanced and increased. This does not take much of time to know if your writing skills are getting better and sharper doing many write ups a day or not. I used to award myself some ratings after doing a bunch of write ups and found that everyday that I past doing write ups increases and enhances my writing skills. But this is not permanent.

Definitely posting in forums can help us improve our writing skills. I've been an active forumer for years and writing out my thoughts have become quicker and more spontaneous. I used to have difficulties in expressing my thoughts fluidly but now, I can say it has improved tremendously.

Yes. When I started writing seriously, my writing was like crap. I have been going over my journals and a story I started a while ago. You would not want to read it, it is that terrible and it was not just the first draft. I do have problems thinking in the morning, that is my worse time to write and especially when it comes to vocabulary. There is this word in my brain and it does not get out until the afternoon. I do find when writing in mylot, not being a good article writer, I have a bit difficulty in the morning. So I sort of write in such a way that instead of seeing the whole post, they sort of take a bit out of the post and assume that is what I am talking about. I was thinking maybe I should write in short sentence and go the A, B, and C route, or the !, 2, 3, ut that is not my personality. i tend to remble.

That's okay. All writers' starts from rumbling their sentences, thoughts and grammars. I believe that writing is a special skill and an exceptional talent, but everyone who wants to write as good as your favorite writer can work a little more harder to achieve that! Yes, they say am a born writer, but I can't really admit that to myself unless I know I am really what they claimed to be me. So I practice writing, and it started from my school paper, until doing it more often online! Just tell me if you are done writing, I might love to have a glimpse on it!

Hello my friend, thank you for telling that story here, you know am a kind of listener, and I love to listen problems like you have right now. Now I understand why you have difficulty in drafting your novels, writing the entire plot, spicing it with the right emotions, right expressions, and so on... because learning is a process, and so is writing. I guess, you were in a middle already then you stopped to work for a living, and then bosses are not strict of the language used... "do the report, make it comprehensive, that's all." Your goal is to make it comprehensive, and ignore some rules about the medium of making it - the English language...
But I will tell you right now my friend, it's not late for you to complete the process. Yeah, what are you doing right now is the practical application of it. Continue writing your novel, continue expressing yourself here in myLot and other discussion forums... Keep using English as your medium, and go back a little about it's agreement...
About some critics that might help you improved your writings, try making an account at authors' den, that's a site where you can publish your story or novel, then received critiques from members, and other experienced novelist and writers who are selling their books and making money from it!
Feel free to talk to me right here mate!

I'm proud of you! Is English your first language? If not, I'm doubly proud. To answer your question , yes my writing has improved. English is my first language but when I came here I was so shy and I didn't write too well. Now I'm far more open and my writing just flows.

Your English is perfect! I wasn't sure if you were a native English speaker or not! I am doubly proud. I am getting bold in my old age, lol. Religion is one of those subjects that I get passionate about. I must confess I don't remember our chat. But It must have been great for you to remember it.

Yeah, I won't easily forget conversation of my important friends, and it goes to show that you are one of those... and one reason I can't forget our chat is that, it's memorable, I was also for my faith that time, but we ended respecting each other... I just less time here digging the archive, but it was still here some years ago... and thank you for the appreciation, truly myLot shaped my skills for constructing sentences as if am native, LOL

Another term: "my writing just flows", yeah, right now my writing just flows as I think of something to tell with you here. To answer your question my friend, it's not my native language, I guess it's my third language spoken, and I spoke less of English a day than my native tongue. Anyway, I don't think you were still shy when we first built up our friendship here, remember our talk about religion before? I guess you had expressed yourself too well without shyness...

How does the saying go -
Practice makes perfect.
The more people write the more people start creating a structure (style) which helps them to concentrate their ideas into words, I notice that if I don't post for a while as sometimes happens because other things get in the way, the first few posts are always the most difficult to do. It is interesting how not only that but the typing speed increases or decreases the more practice I have.

My kids are better in English than me. Sometimes, they correctly some of my sentences here in myLot. Though I've been here for quiet long now, I still have many mistakes on my English grammar. That would far more worst when I just started here. Therefore, i think my writing skills have improved a lot when I engage in myLot.

Yes, I would have to say that they certainly have, judging by the feeling I get and the income I am generating too! I think my improvement is due to paying more attention and taking extra care in what I write, by doing all the research and thinking about things. Maybe the topics I am selecting lately could also be a cause, as they really interest me.

Yeah, you are right there mate! Your interest will unknowingly teach you the skills necessary to construct fine sentences and paragraphs. When you choose a topic that you are really interested with, you will pay extra attention to make it appear as you want it to be to your readers. Yes, I admit Mylot has definitely helped me a lot in improving my fluency in writing in English. Before, I was always at loss for words. I couldn't say what I really wanted to express. Now, in my opinion my writing has absolutely improved. It doesn't take long now before I can finish what I want to write. It also helped that I imitate some members' writing style to make myself sound a little more intelligent and knowledgeable about what I'm talking about. Haha.

I've been writing a long time and can easily think and write at the same time. However, it seems no matter how long anyone writes, we all need to go back over what we wrote checking, endlessly checking for errors! Which just tells me learning is a never-ending process. It helps me if others critique my work. Taking their views into consideration tends to strengthen all writings.

Yeah your idea is absolute about writing mate! Writing is a process, and it will always be a process! When you try to make the shortcut, expect that the output is not as refined as following the complete steps.
