These little things called termites are pretty scary. Well even though their size is not threatening, they can do a great damage to a house. Our house at the moment has termites and we've already lost many books from our library, our previous cabinets, and the latest damage is our ceiling.
We've already hired an exterminator, we've already tried using chemicals to get rid of them but they keep coming back and wrecking havoc. Do you have any solution for this? Have you tried having termite infestation? What are the damages? Hope you'll share.

We used to have termites infestation back when I was still living in my parents' house. The first casualty is our wooden cabinet of books and it ruined our set of encyclopedia and dictionaries, the big hard bound ones whose covers are nice decorative pieces to begin with. They also damaged about 2 planks of the wooden floor of the second floor. Good thing the exterminator we contracted is a good one. Since then, we are wary of termites. This is one heck of a group of insect that can really reduce a house in rotting piles.

Hi Ladies!
Our encyclopedias and precious hard bound books were also victimized by those termites. It's actually kind of sad and annoying at the same time. I mean we took care of those pieces, we are careful in turning it's pages and then it gets mutilated by these tiny, tiny pests.

Oh same here. Few months ago, I discovered that there was a termite colony in our bookshelf :( My precious paperbacks were ruined and also the colorful hardbound books about accessory making. I hate termites. These little insects can really put the house down.

We both have the same dilemma. Although we have gotten rid most of it by using sprays or solutions (which I do not know how it is called) still the damaged wood have not yet been replaced. It is a horror!

I can clearly see what you are saying. It is like here in our house, too! If I could just do the changing of these woods......

Well you could but it would really be hard work specially because we are women. Plus it will cost you some cash for the repair.

The first things you do is inspect first all possible areas affected by the damage,so
that you could calculate how much chemical solution of Solignum you could buy to raid
out that termites, and of course you have to adjust an allowance for use in all the near ground parts of your house. This could guaranty you full safety for more than 8 to 10 years without the termites around. If you put this chemical the termite can instantly be killed and others would run out of your house, because the effectiveness
of this chemical is guaranteed.

You must take note of all aspects why does this tiny pest attacks your house. So you must do all possible ways what Solignum could do to stop the spread of damage in your
whole house. If you are really going to stop the spread of damage, then buy 2 container
of Solignum to ensure the sufficient amount of the dose recommended to stop the termites from entering and damaging the areas affected.I have really observed how effective this pesticide in my house when I have finished applying it the termites did not care to come back to my place.

I think solignum doesn't really work. Our friend told us that these days there are many different ways to stop termite infestation.

If you have hired termite exterminator but the problem is still there then the termite exterminator should be called again to repeat his job. Unless he did this job years ago, I think there is something wrong if the termite was completely exterminated.

Oh that's indeed sad. In our place the termite exterminator has to return if the problem persists. If they don't nobody would trust them anymore so their business would suffer. Actually it is part of their job to visit again to see the outcome and after a year they also offer to come again to do extermination for free.

How I wish more people will be like that, conscientious in their work and business. Nowadays people care more about the money rather than the quality of work they do. It's actually saddening.

Hi,
The house should be termite-proofed in the first place during the construction phase. The ground is sprayed with an anti termite compound before laying down the foundations. After erecting the foundations, the whole house should be sealed from outside by identifying possible entries and placing compounds there. Woods should be treated similarly before installing them as beams, trusses, and other structures.
In that way, termites has no way doing business in that kind of building.

I think that's the biggest mistake or rather omission my mom and dad made when they made our house. I don't know if they failed to think about it or they were still too poor to do that way back when. Our family started poor way back when and so treatments and other important things might have been compromised.

Well I definitely would try to find those boards. Plus the article told me that I got to bait the termites. So I'm going to prepare for it too. Thanks a ton.

Yes, they are so small and their bit of team-work is so big! In my childhood, we had this termites at our old home and they eaten up the wooden furniture and books etc., especially in the monsoon times. Once it is affected, they will finish in few days time.
We used to apply the 'kerosine' and that was the only solution. Just take a little (may be 25-30 ml. of kerosine and apply or put in some cotton cloth and place it where the termites are visible. Also, if it is large in accumulation or placed in a heap of earth, you can pour the kerosine over it and it will slowly move away from the area. However, this is a low-cost metheod and effective also. Try it and see if it works.

We haven't tried kerosene yet. We used a chemical called "extermite" and it didn't work well. I'd tell my parents about kerosene. I hope it works as we have already spent too much to get rid of termites. Thanks.

Strength is unity might be offbeat here but true to it's word. These termites are very powerful creatures they can chew down anything to dust. They make it vulnerable for people to keep a nice collection books as they tore them up into pieces. I have many such books (mostly of ancient architecture) which I liked very much. But fortunately saved a part of them as it was either dis selected by them or they didn't get enough time to reach those books. I did not called up any exterminator instead I kept them to a safer place. I never tried termite infestation as there are no such services available here. But there are many websites those sell services and chemical (insecticides) to kill termites.

Lucky for you, you were able to save some of your books. My books the termites would chew a piece and then move on to another book so they were all tainted.

hiring exterminators should fix the problem, if you already have but the termite infestation still continues that means the queen is still there, killing the queen is the only solution. Try pouring some flea powder on the termites, they will bring the powder to their queen and hope the flea powder kills it.

Hmm, I didn't know termites also have queens. I sure would like to sprinkle flea powder to them but the problem is I couldn't see them. I understand they tunnel and hid from the sun so it's pretty hard to catch them.
