My mum told me not to wash hair everyday, or else, I will get a very serious headache when I getting elder and elder. This is her learn from Chinese medicine, also is her experience for herself. So I wash my hair every three days at least, but whether my schoolmate or my colleagues most wash their everyday, their said that hair will grow without wash daily.
In fact, I feel hard to past when in summer bucause hair is easy to sweat, when I am think about is it necessary to change my habit of wash hair, I heard from one of my old colleague talk to another that she get very serious headache but still wash hair daily. Every morning she wash hair secretly before go to work, because her mother doesn't let her do that, in fact her headache has to take a lot of powerful medicine to control now.
So, is it right for me insist my wash hair habit? Or wash hair daily is wrong?

Wow! Your mother is really very traditional. When it's very hot and you are staying in a polluted place, one must wash her hair everyday. It's a good hygiene practice.
I've washed my hair everyday since I was a kid because my mother told me so. I live in a tropical country and we sweat everyday. If we don't wash our hair daily, it would smell and be greasy. It looks really dirty. I have never suffered a headache because of washing my hair on a daily basis.
There was one superstitious belief that I once heard from old people. Don't wash your hair at night and sleep when your hair is wet because you will go blind. Of course that wasn't true. I've tried that and I never went blind!

I have to say your physical condition is very good, for I tried for a period of time wash hair every one or two days, and I began to head after that.
Before saw you respond, people who living in trpical country most cut hair clean for hot weather, but now think about that is impossible, maybe men can do that but women is unable to do so. I was really stupid.
My mum's saying is, if you sleep with wet hair, the moisture will enter your head so as to endanger your health, the principle is probable the hair root hair follicles in the uptake of nutrients and mositure absorption, but I never heard she said that would let people blind.

Hi!..I was told that i not to wash your hair late at night because you may get headaches..Maybe it is an Asian thing..Although I do headaches from time to time but theres no way to prove that it was because of the late washing..
I don't think there's any harm to washing your hair everyday..You are justing stripping off oil off of your hair from washing...I do suggest that you use conditioners...
Using generic hair dryers can make your hair dry and you're more likely to do damage if you don't look after it...
I do wash my hair every day/or night only because i do build up oil quite easily..I like to wash my hair every day because I sleep better at night in general..

Well, personally I wash my hair everyday especially that the weather in our country is hot and it is not good to leave the hair unwashed even for a day. The sweat that dried up on our scalp will be the cause of dandruff. But true, I am experiencing headaches especially during my monthly period. I don’t know if this thing has something to do with washing my hair everyday or just too much thinking. Our work requires a lot of thinking.

My mum told me that is not good for wash hair during the menstrual period, I also read the detailed interpretation of the articles on the network, but the content is too much I am not too might to be able to say it in English, maybe you can ask for the doctor about this.
Then thanks for respond.

I have never heard of this before. I wash my hair daily because I have oily scalp, and if I don't it tends to get itchy and the strands become sticky. I can't go through the day with limp hair, it really makes it obvious that I haven't wash my hair. Maybe you can wash with your hair bend down, so the water does not hit directly on top of your head, or use a mild shampoo if you are not comfortable with washing your hair so often.

Maybe we have to wash our hair daily for the climate conditions and other thing of the place we living. I also ask mum again detailed, she said, even have to wash hair daily, should not at least get up in the morning immediately wash hair, if at night don't go to sleep unless let the hair dry. There is, I seem to know that type of the scalp can be changed by conditioning.
Thanks for respond.

I don't think it's necessary to wash your hair everyday as I have heard that there are natural oils in your hair that are good for the hair. I typically don't wash it everyday unless I have a lot of products in it I will wash it that night, otherwise the products will start to flake in my hair and it'll look aweful.

Yes, it should not let things like hair gel, hair pomade stay in our hair, they all have many chemical ingredients after all, let them stay too long will effect to health. Here we have another saying that women don't wash hair each month when in physiological period, or else is bad to health. I also saw an article costs a large space of to explain about this, how about people think about it where your live?

Here the elders believe that washing the hair everyday is not good for the health. Like what your mom said, you would have the headache when you grow older. I don't believe it anyway. However, I think it is not necessary to wash the hair everyday. I wash my hair every two days.

Hi there, well I do wash my hair daily but I don't get any headache at all. And you're right, sweat from our head and all over the hair, that sticky feeling is irritating isn't it. So I wash my hair once everyday. I guess nothing's wrong with it.

It's actually healthier to wash your hair every other day or less if you choose. I'm a Cosmetology School student and the more you wash your hair, the drier and more brittle your hair becomes. This is why they make moisturizing shampoo and conditioners. All the gunk that you're putting on your hair and scalp with shampoo and conditioners can actually weigh your hair down and sometimes make your hair feel dirtier. So if you do wash your hair every day or more often, you should try to find light shampoos and conditioners without all the fancy stuff in them (unless you need moisturizing, but conditioner will do that on it's own).
As for getting headaches from washing your hair, I've never heard of that. Have you ever been to the doctor about it? Quite possibly, your headaches are due to something else (such as migraines) and washing your hair just makes it worse. Try to be more gentle with your scalp when washing your hair.

Your point is quite reasonable, maybe different living habits will cause different result by the same things lead, my mum's saying based on the theory of Chinese medicine which certainly has its reason, probably also has a relationship with my weak consititution. Feeling of western consititution is stronger than in the East, such as I never heard of western women need to confinement a period of time after completes a child like us. It also traditional culture of course.

For me, I still wash my hair daily. I even wash it twice sometimes, in the morning and in the evening. It's hard not to wash our hair here because the weather is so hot and we get sweaty. And the streets are filled with smoke and the smell sticks to our hair. So far, I'm not feeling any headache because of that. And I hope I won't get it when I grow older either.

For mun's saying when you are young with good resistance, so wash hair daily will not feel what is wrong. When you are old resistance decreased gradually when the will to resist, but now environmental pollution getting more and more serious, temperatures also generally elevated, let us have to shorten the cycle of washing the hair.
To this both of us have to wish each other good luck. And thank your very much for respond.

I wash my hair everyday but I only use shampoo only on weekdays :) I also have long hair but I don't get headache whenever I wash it. Instead I get so refresh! Having headache in washing your hair is kinda alarming. She should have to check up with the doctor regarding her situation..
