In a way, I was a working student in college. I decided to work so that I could gain some extra allowances to be used in school works and miscellaneous expenses. When I wasn't busy during semesters, I would take on tutoring jobs such as teaching math and other subjects. I also tutored kids during summer if I have a free time. I was able to save a lot for myself and it was very fulfilling on my part.
I have a sister who is still studying and she is a business major. I encourage her to take on part time jobs if she had the time. Surely, it will help her develop her skills and have a real job experience.
What kind of jobs do you suggest for her?

Any outside campus job that pay you reasonable wages and not exploiting you by paying you with below minimum wage that commonly find in college or university Campus's jobs is a good part time job for students who need the extra allowances. There are a number of them you can find through the classified adv. and company hiring websites. It is up to the student involve to decide which one is suitable for him/her base on the class schedule and personal needs.

That is one of the main reason those authority in colleges and university like to have student doing part time job in campus for them, they can avoid paying these students fair wages and cost them only the bare minimum to get the job done. I was paid only half of the legal minimum wages where i was working in campus job during my years in university, they are not required to pay you fairly. I think if you really want a fair wage pay by your employer from your part time job, it is better for you to find the job outside the campus, not from the school or college you presently study unless they are willing to pay fairly with at least minimum wage like the rest of the outside employers.

Yeah. But at least you earned something. Did they pay for your tuition fees?
Because other colleges offer scholars in which they pay for the tuition under the services of the students.

Thanks for the general response. They pay you with below minimum wage that are common for college and highschool students. I wished I had done this more often so I could have saved much more than I used to.

That's nice. She is starting at an early age even though she does only earn a little. It is something that can make her busy. Instead of doing something unproductive, she can earn something from that as a part time job. You should be proud of her.

Baby sitting someone's child is good, or just being a caretaker at a grocery store or house would also be okay. But, mostly for students, some would venture into making some of their time into creative ones. Apart from tutoring, if you're good in Photoshop, you can do a part time job as a graphic artist of some sort. If you're good in computers, you can ask to get paid for simple troubleshooting of computer software or system. Buy and sell would also be a good thing, although that could be both an online and offline job.

Yeah. As part time, you could be a graphic artist. It's hard to learn photoshop too. So it will be a great asset for anyone. Also troubleshooting computers would be nice because not all people are techie experts. One could also venture in buy and sell but I think this is the hardest one you've mentioned.

Buy and sell is really hard, but if you're really good with your sales talk and you know a lot of people who are willing to sell you something at a lower price, so you can resell it with a little increase in price, then you could probably get into it. I met a 22 year old college girl who was actually buying some beanie hats and other knitted garments as her part time job. She does meet ups and shipping. I think there's lots of these young entrepreneurs nowadays who do online and offline buy and sell.

Yeah. Thanks for the reply. There are really a lot of entrepreneurs these days. They start at an early age so that they can improve their skills in dealing with people and talking business.

Sure is nice to have a part time job, I also want to, because I think in addition to the experience, it's also for pocket money and ease the burden on parents. I think you can tell him to be a desaigner when you can use the software on a computer such as Corel and Photoshop.

Yeah. Learning these photoshop skills are hard. But these are very great assets to one's talents. With these skills, you can have a lot of jobs offline and online. When I took on a job, I always thought it could help me by lessening the burden of my parents and it could help me with money.

It is good for the students to have some part-time job. They can not only earn money from it but also gain the working experience. And after they graduate from school, these working experience will be beneficial for them. When I was a college, I was also a tutor for a school boy. I liked a part-time job like that because it was easy. Of course working in the restaurant like Pizza Hut, McDonald's is also nice.
I love China

That's nice. You were already responsible when you were still a student. I think you are already mature because you know the importance of earning money and spending money. I want to encourage my sister not for the money but for the working experience. Someday she will benefit from it when she takes on full time jobs after she graduates.

When I was studying, and online working is not yet in during those times, I would go for direct selling. I also made handbags, hand fans and other things and sell it to my classmates and teachers. I know how to sew that is why I can make personalized hand bags. they will tell me the design based on what they had seen from the mall and I am going to make it for them.

Madiskarte ka. You are very wise. You are utilizing your talent into good use. Everybody should find what they are good at and see if they can make money out of it. I am good in math so I tutor kids when they are having trouble with math. I also know that there are a lot of students having difficulty in math subjects. This is advantageous to me. Thanks for sharing.

Hi jvincent_129, I have the same course like your sister before and i graduated BSBA major in management, when i am studying i work as a part time clerk assistant in a bank during school days and a assistant management trainee in a supermarket every summer vacation. It really help me to earn, save and learn a lot of things about business especially in decision making and dealing with customers which is very important in a management student and for the future business career. I would like to suggest to find a job that she can really enjoy and a kind of job that she can able to use it as a work references in the future.

Wow. This is a nice advice for my sister. You'll not only earn money but also learn a lot through your experiences in work. Like what you said, learning to deal with customers and in decision making. Yeah. She can make it a work reference in the future. That's why I am encouraging her to start early because I wasn't able to start at an earlier time. You indeed have plans already in life.
Were you paid when you worked as a clerk assistant and assistant management trainee?

If she is a business major maybe she can find internships somewhere. I'm a business major myself, I'm on my third yea. I plan on finding myself an internship very soon, it might be paid or it might not. But it would be useful for her either way. Sometimes, companies that employ you will take you on afterward for a part time job. Even if that didn't happen she would have experience to add to her cv which would help her finding a job in that field or something similar. International companies in general will employ business students as interns, either in HR, outsourcing, advisory asistants. I myself am looking for something in the field of accounting/audit because I find that interesting and want to try it out in practice to see if I could make a career out of it.

Wow. Thanks. You surely have plans already. This is what I encouraged my sister to do. But she said she is busy with school and there are already many school works to be done. Would that be hard for her? Would it be better to just concentrate on school first? But you also have a point that she must start finding experience so that it will help her in the long run.

I suggest some kind of Data entry jobs which helps her in getting good income as well as good experience in working. There are some Data entry jobs which can work either in online or offline. She can just work for 2 to 3 hrs a day. its more than enough. But you need to be very careful while selecting online data entry jobs because there are some people who will get the work done by you and will not pay at the end. If you select such kind of jobs through some reference that would be better.

Thanks for the suggestion. Data entry jobs are nice but very tedious. Yeah. She can work for her own time and speed. It depends on her schedule. For that, I'd rather encourage her to take on offline data entry jobs than online.
