Is this the way a captain plays.......What a shameful innings from MSD, which led India to loss. India lost the match by 1 run chasing 168... 168 was a chase able target in Chennai pitch, and India played really well around 15-16 overs.Virat scored 70(41) and raina scored 27(22).... After the loss of Virat's wicket, India started struggling as Dhoni came into crease. He played a very very slow and poor inning of 22 from 23, remember he played the last part of Indian innings wasting valuable 23 balls and remained not out. Strikerate was below 100 at this crusial situation. Yuvi tried his best and scored 34 from 26 balls with 2 sixes, but Dhoni on other end batted very uselessly. If Dhoni was not able to play shots, he should have threw away his wicket or retired hurt..Some others might have done it.Irfan, Tiwari,Rohit was there.... The match was lost by India only because of India's great captain MSD..... So do you justify Dhoni's innings..... Share your views....

hi, I could only watch the last two overs of the whole match yesterday and it was very uncertain but the four and youvi's wicket made a U turn. MSD usually hit to win but unfortunately it was not his day y/day.

Yesterday, he was not hitting hard to win, Instead he was playing like just a by stander with Yuvi, he was in a mind that yuvi will hit it to win. But yuvi's wicket in last over made it all towards NZ victory..MSD should have batted with better strike rate from the start.

this loss should make india become serious and play a proper match. After IPL cricket players want more money and they do not play sincerely in other matches.

@ venkit. You are right MSD wanted Yuvi to regain that confidence by hitting the winning run. To some it may seem as if he made a mistake , it may seem as if he has lost a battle but Dhoni is focussed on winning the big war that is T-20 world cup and he is keen to see his best player gain form quickly. Obviously, you don't know how important Yuvi is for the success of India's T-20 campaign. If he can have a confident Yuvi in the middle order we will win more matches in t-20, as simple as that. Dhoni could have simply bludgeoned the bowling and may have won the match but by showing trust in Yuvi he only made Yuvi stronger and confident about his rightful place n the t-20 side. If you see Yuvi doing well in Srilanka it will be because the team and the captain have faith in his abilities. MSD knows the impact a confident Yuvi will have on the opposition and the tournament. This is the same MSD who came in before YUvi in the world cup final to win it for India after India had lost Sehwag and Sachin cheaply, have you forgotten that so quickly? India is lucky to have such a great leader in MSD

Just 2 things should be enough for my response. 1.my dad and i was watching the match and when Dhoni came before rohit and tiwari,my dad's face showed displeasure.he said,"well only 7 runs difference so india can win easily with overs to spare but since Dhoni is here,he will make sure the match will go to the final over" and i replied," just make sure he plays all the balls of that last over or else he will be in trouble".my dad and i are no prophets but hey we know Dhoni. 2.not satisfied with just watching the match,i checked one of those cricket commentary websites.after the match, the guy posted only one response from the viewers. "Trust Dhoni to bungle up the chase and put breaks on a rapidly accelerating train. This game was India's to lose and Dhoni ensured that it happened by his go slow approach. I am surprised to see no one raising this in the TV commentary box. Dhoni's go slow approach at the start of innings in T20s has put his teams ( CSK and India) at risk a number of times and today India paid the price."

surely prediction's doesn't matter, but playing matters. Here MSD made the match to vain with his poor effort. If he had just tried to hits some more shots, thent he match would have produced a different result. he put all the burden on Yuvi, that should not be done by any partner, specially by a captain. it is not only the last over, MSD should have played well according to runrate from the time he came to bat. The pitch will slow, that brings the beauty and thrill in the game, but player can't get away with singles saying that pitch is slowing down. They have to fight for the win, if they are not able to do it, throw the wickets, let the next batsmens try for it. This way very very poor performance from the captain.

@ venkit. Don't be stubborn. A loss is a loss and in cricket you can't win them all even if you are MSD. you forget that the others except Kohli failed to get going and Yuvi and Rohit could not score the boundaries. Now everyone knows that youvi and rohit are better batsmaen than Dhoni but Dhoni scores over all of them with a better temperament. Dhoni made a mistake by thinking Yuvi should be allowed to find his form and winning ways and India lost but that is OK, India will benefit when Yuvu roars into form in the on going T-20 WC.

If two people watching the game on the telly can predict the results then cricket is indeed as easy and simple as it appears to the layman. There is something called momentum and it keeps shifting from one team to the other. In hind sight you may come up with all the logic but when the decisions are being made on the ground it is a different ball game. If you had noticed the ball was holding back after pitching and Yuvi's second six was not the most convincing six he has ever hit. It was mishit and managed to fly over the ropes. And the ball he got out to appeared as if he played the shot before the ball reached him. Newcomer Rohit simply could not get going but then that is to be expected. Cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties and if you become over confident or complacent you can get a nasty surprise. And Dhoni was guilty of over confidence. But Dhoni is a true professional and if there was a hint of over confidence he will rectify it for sure.

There is no way to justify Dhoni's innings. he being a captain should have atleast played run a ball in initial situations. But he was slow to start and just started hitting in the penultimate over when asking rate was above 12. I really didnt understand his game plan and no wonders India lost.

surely, there is now wonder in India's loss. The strategy of captain was not at all the victory. he just played out the balls. But if he is not able to hit hard, he should have given the way to some others, they would have tried better..

Yuvi made a good come back, it is a good sign for T20 world cup, hope that he will be feeling more better by the time of world cup and India will win the WC.

We did have a better chance of winning yesterday.May be yesterday was not dhoni's day,but i think he should have batted little sensibly, may be to rotate the strike more often. After winning the test series so easily team india increases it's expectation among us,naturally we thought of a easy win.Anyway better luck next time.

The match was in India's control, the slow batting of Dhoni in T20 give the win to NZ. This will be a good lesson for India before WC and hope that MSD will learn from his mistake.

Well, I think it is too early to criticize Dhoni so much. I think Kiwi bowlers also did well to get the win for them. And Kiwis have the allrounders to be tough players in T20.

@ venkit. If you noticed even Taylor said the wicket slowed down considerably in the last 10 overs of the match. The ball tends to grip the soil and the carry and bounce is restricted and it becomes difficult for the new batsman to make that adjustment and that is when an intelligent bowler takes away the pace from his bowling and bowls just short of length and forces the batsman to impart more power and adjust his timing. You saw that when Yuvi got out. He could not adjust his timing and ended up playing across the line. Yes, Dhoni was also struggling with his timing and could not force ball away from the square. Dhoni has won some matches for India and this was on be instance when he almost succeeded. But then to the arm chair cricket critic such nuances of the game can never be explained as they tend to blame a failure. Yse, the match was in India's control but New Zealnad managed to take it away from India with some superlative cricket and you have to accept that instead of blaming the best finisher in the shorter format of the game.

It is disgusting when you say he played uselessly. You can't win them all and players do make mistakes. If Dhoni tends to slow down the game it is because he is not gifted with innovative and wristy play to rotate the strike at will like Kohli or a Sachin. He can play the lofted shot and as captain he has to cut out all the risks till the very end. So he plays the risky shots at the end. To the lay man it appears as if Dhoni is slowing down the game, but then the game appears to be too easy for the spectator who can get carried away by the heroics of a gifted player and expect the less gifted to play far above his potential.

so the captain cut out the risk till the end and India lost the match. I completely disagree with you. MSD has played better in many other risky conditions, if he have cant play wristy shots, he should go for lofted shots, there is no point in playing out the balls in a T20 match. Here each and every ball counts, even a single ball can change the game.. If he was not able to do, surely he should have tried for lofted shots, even in that course he loss his wicket, then some one else can try for it. Indian team had good batting line up, rohit and pathan was still to come.So don't the captain had faith in the players picked by him?? I don't thin Dhoni is less gifted, he played the match in a lazy and easy manner, he was in the mind that, yuvi will do it and i will also get the credit. There was no sincere effort from MSD to win the match. It is a sad and poor performance from the Indian captain. And i repeat: Dhoni played uselessly in this match..

The bowling was good and it is not easy for even Dhoni when the bowlers are taking advantage of a slowing wicket with some clever bowling.Frnklin and Oram boled brilliantly and choked India. Yuvi had come before Dhoni and Rohit got 4 balls but could not hit them away so why are you blaming Dhoni? I think you are used to Dhoni hitting all those sixes so you think opposition bowlers are there to offer batting practice to our batsmen. They bowled well and so India choke. It happens and if you havenot noticed the bowlers are getting the measure of batsmen in the shortest format. It is no longer easy to slogs sixes and fours. if you don't believe me watch the bowlers dominate this wcT-20 and you will understand. You may think he played in a useless manner but I think the new Zealanders bowled well and choked India.

May be, Dhoni was not in a good form that day. Perhaps, this match would provide some important take-aways for T-20 world cup.
