Is it true that there are problems in Paypal like hacking?

I just read the post in other forums specifically in Odesk topic. It just so happened that they were talking about the salary or balance maintaining or how would the salary be transferred into paypal. Someone even mentioned that they can trust the odesk but not the paypal. So it makes me very alarmed to this matter since I have been trusting paypal that I keep the amount first before I am going to withdraw it. Then that person who posted told me that there are some issues of hacking that is why there are some people that have lost their money because of paypal. So how true it is that some paypal account can't be prevented from those hackers? That is why instead of maintaining my balance there I totally withdraw my amount to avoid this kind of problem. Have you ever encountered this kind of problem as well? Share with us your experience.

I have had my PayPal account for about 10 years now and you must honestly look out for potential scams comming through phising emails - people sending you an email pretending to be from PayPal.
The best way to protect yourself is always to login to paypal from www.paypal.com and check this is the URL listed in your browser, if not then dont type in your login and password.

Okay thank you for that information at least now I don't really need to withdraw right away in order for me to get those money I have. At least I could earn more first before withdraw.

Also if you wanna make it extra secure, use passwords containing of both capitalzied and non capitalized letters and numbers - and change the password often - like every 3 months.

As far as I know paypal is really safe and secured that hackers can't steal just like that. I was totally surprised of hearing some dilemmas from that website.

Don't worry I had paypal for almost 7 years and I never had any problem with them, although you will get some emails saying there was something wrong in your account and that they want you to enter your information in-order to sign in, but those are the real scams and they will steal your information.

Thank you very much for your advise. At least now I should ignore those things from my email and check my paypal account right away in order for me to protect my hard earned account.

Paypal is very safe and stable. I've been using it for almost 2 years. The best way to prevent hackers is to ignore phishing E-mail pretending to be coming from paypal and never give your paypal personal details to anyone.

I've been on Paypal since 2006 and have never had a problem. Just don't give out your password, and keep some sort of antivirus on your computer and you'll be fine. I do tend to withdraw my Paypal balance into my checking account just so I can earn interest on it instead of Paypal.

Next thing I can do now at least check the balance every now and then to avoid my worries of being hacked. Now I shouldn't withdraw right away so that at least I can save more money.

Good afternoon to you.
I have had paypal for years and I have not had any issues with them at all. I am wondering though if its because dont have a lot of money in it. I would like to think that this is a safe place because its so widely known. I guess that I will be researching what type of gaurentee that they have if the money was to be stolen. I would like to also think that they also have a safety net for their clients.

Interestingly, I had a Paypal account quite a few years ago. I had closed it because I knew someone personally who had his account hacked and there was another person that he knew who also lost a sum of money.
So I was afraid.
Then I opened a new Paypal account because of my online activities. I've had the new account for probably around 5 years or so. I have never had any problems at all.
I did get what turned out to be a phishing scam via email. It looked very suspicious so I forwarded it to Paypal and they looked into it. Then Paypal sent me a response thanking me for alerting them.
They then took care of this particular issue. Unfortunately there are too many phishing scams and if you are unaware of them, you could end up with an empty bank account.
Paypal will never ask you for personal information in an email. If there are updates that they want you to be aware of, they will send an email and have you log into their website to get the information.
Don't open links from an email claiming to be Paypal and start giving your personal information. That could only spell trouble.
This may be what is happening to those who are being hacked.

Hi, it's me again. Just to be on the safe side, I don't keep much of a balance in my Paypal account or the bank account that it's attached to.
I do trust Paypal but I still don't take risks like holding a large balance.

I have never had a problem with my paypal account, nor have I ever heard of any problems from any friends who use paypal. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but it is more likely that anyone who had an issue had their password compromised in some way that provided the hackers with access to their account. There are a lot of scams around and a common one is to send an email disguised as one coming from paypal to get people to follow bogus links and give up their password.

That is the reason why I need to be more vigilant with my account now because of that kind of issues. More so as much as possible I would be really protecting my account especially my password.

Just be sure that you choose a password that contains both upper and lowercase letters as well as numbers. Longer is also better than shorter.

Yes, I heard of paypal account getting hacked. But it never happened with me. It is possible that the person in question left some kind of footprint somewhere about his Papal account for which it got hacked. I know of certain emails that look official, but are actually from hackers. Things online are getting trickier. But Paypal has very tight security. They are very strict about this.

I also trust paypal that they have the tight security. Just because of what I've read I was alarmed to that and forced myself to withdraw right away. I am planning to earn more money from that paypal first before I am going to withdraw it.

Dear Metatronik
Thanks for warning us on the pay pal issue. It appears that there may be something wrong with this site. But in truth, I believe that they are quite reliable paying site for us. Sad to say, I have not got any monies from any web site yet. But many of the people in my country have not encounter any problems. If you are unsure, I would suggest that you hold your payment from the site you work with. When everything is cleared then re-use this site 'pay pal' to transfer your money in your home country's accounb. OK? Thanks!

I have a friend wherein his paypal account has been hacked recently. He had zero balance in his account. Good thing, he has transferred to his debit card the substantial amount, but his current payout was wiped out by unknown perpetrator. I think, the reason here is that, his paypal email is the same with his actual name, for example his name is ABC, and his email address is ABC@yahoo.com, password is so easy to decode. That's why I'm, for one is creating hard passwords, sometimes I changed it regularly. So there. Thanks

Oh my! my account is like that as well with both yahoo and gmail. Should I change it now into another? Example my name is ABC then my email is like a codename such as luckygirl@yahoo.com, does should be like that? I mean your name shouldn't be match with your email so that it won't be detected or easy to decode?

I have no issues whatever with Paypal. I have been using it for almost two years now. That guy from Odesk may have inadvertently shared his Paypal password with other persons.
If you have problems with Paypal, contact the site and they will be happy to entertain your queries.

I have been using paypal for a long time and I too never had any problem. For those people who's accounts have been hacked, they were just careless. Maybe they used a public computer when transacting with paypal or maybe someone was watching them while typing their password. If anything goes wrong with your paypal money, it definitely comes from an outside problem, not within paypal.

They maybe careless but then still we can't judge it at all. Maybe as well they became a victim of what you call phishing emails that other posters claimed that it is an email who pretends to be a paypal then asking the security questions. What we can do now is to be more vigilant with our accounts.

Personally I have heard of people who experience this type of problem and it is sad. There does need to be more protection over this site, but there have been people who have had even bank accounts jeopardized so you really just always need to watch what type of information you share with someone to prevent this from happening, and I know some people who go in and change all their passwords to all their sites from time to time as well. I have been using PayPal for many years, and been OK but do not keep larger amounts in there.

Okay at least I have now an idea that I must change my password as well. I remember I've changed it and now it is hard to remember it so as always I have a copy of that password. But then now I should change it again as part of security reason.

We must always be careful with incoming emails which could be the
phishing site. So far so good, my friends who used the Paypal account
for years did not experience any problems. I truly hope that Paypal
Account is protected because many paypal users are depending on income
earned from online.

I think it is already 2 years. Nothing happened to my account though of course I was just alarmed by this person who have posted in forums that there are some feedback she heard about the discrepancies happened in paypal. So of course I am now needing the second or other opinion regarding this matter.

I have been using Paypal for quite a long time and I got no problem with them. I keep my money there for some certain of time until it is big enough for me to withdraw.
I think Paypal has the highest security... and in my opinion, it is just the same with other bank account. You should keep your password save and that's all that matters.
