Do you keep your cellphone on and by your bedside all night? I do. Well okay I don't always have it by my bedside, but when I need to charge it or if I am texting someone I do. Last night I was charging / texting someone and ended up stopping that around 1:30 Am. I get a text at 5:30 AM from a number I don't recognize asking if anyone (must've been a group text) could pick them up. I didn't text them back then, but did when I woke up. I told them to check who they are texting so early in the morning that I don't know them.
I've not gotten a text back and I don't know that I actually will. I just think that if you are texting that early in the morning, no matter how sleepy you are, try to make sure you are texting the right number before you go texting someone.
The number LOOKED familiar but I can't be sure, and I don't think I know the person.
What would you have done, would you have texted them back the minute they woke you up? Would you have at all?

hey,
first of all i dont even wake up at my alarm :D, besides i always keep my cellphone next to me because most of the times i am texting till i fall asleep, if someone would have texted me like that i woulod never bother to reply back obviously if there would be an emergency i will get a call, so i stay calm entire night and reply to messages in morning, why to disturb a goodnight sleep for a random person:P.

You are a heavy sleeper, I am a moderate sleeper. My text message alarm is also very obnoxious so it wakes me up. I don't have the luxury of just not letting it bother me. I did fall right back to sleep, and that's why I didn't text until the morning.

No, I would nothave text them back immediately. I do keep my cell by my bed at n ight as I set the clock to alarm. However, I usually have the phone on vibrate as I just hated to be woken up from sleep when the phone rings. My children and I are woeking around a 6 hour time difference but we are used to it now.i would never waste the money to return a call if I did not recognise the number either. I figure that of that person really wants to speak to me then they should call me again

I have unlimited everything so it doesn't cost me to text them back or if I was to call, to do that either. I suppose if I didn't have unlimited I'd ignore it unless it happened again and then I'd call them immediately after to let them KNOW that I am not who they think I am, and to stop texting me.
I dont' wake up until noon now so that was way too early to be texting me.

I have it next to me but it will be automatically off at 2am and it will be on at 8am. My husband usually thinks that my phone has empty battery. LOL. I told him that if it isn't 8am yet, it's still off. He needs to switch it on. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

In cases, where there is an unknown number who texted i would ask who that person is.
Like the other day, i had a missed call. But i didn't text back. Then in the middle of the night i was awakened by the text alert, but i didn't read it.
However, in the morning i read it, and it's from my friend from abroad. She was asking for my landline and after about 5 minutes she called.

I do keep my phone on all night next to me. We don't have a home phone and therefore if someone needs to get a hold of me urgently then the cell is the only way that they can do that. But if I get a text from a number that I do not know - or a call for that matter - and it is in the middle of the night or very early in the morning, then I will generally not answer it unless I am wide awake. If they try several times then I may answer as I asume it is important when someone is persistant.

Yes I do keep my cell by my bedside all night. But not to text. I put alarms on it to wake me up early in the morning. I do not text much Well actually I do not like texting or calling anybody if not required. I used to text people AND ADDED A LOT OF friends to network. But as soon as I got sicked of this texting for no reason I started sending out text Like this 'vghjggjghjggkkkhkhkuhfftdd' muliply it.The reason was simple and forward people started sending me shayaris, songs, meaningless jokes and much meaningless and senseless things that was unbearable or annoying sometimes.
Now I do not text somebody unless it is hyper necessary.

I have gotten Texts before from people I did not know, and personally have always wondered how they got my number, and if it was by accident. There have also been times I have asked who is this. But if it is in the middle of the night, I do keep my phone on unless I am charging it, and by my bed as you never know when someone might need to get a hold of me in case of an Emergency.

Hmm. I think if it's really an emergency and it looks like he/she needs help, I will try to find help but first I will ask who he or she is. And he or she doesn't answer then I'll go back to sleep. I keep my phone in my bag at night. I keep it on all night just in case important messages come.

I do keep my cellphone all night because there could be emergency calls I need to receive and attend to. But I don't really text back to unknown numbers unless it has a recognizable name after the text. And also if there is a request done like that same one you received I don't move unless I've verified that it is not a hoax. I normally call the number to double check if he or she is really the person I know.

I would probably have just texted back who is this then figure out what is going on and why they are texting so early in the morning. If they woke you up then your up and might as well figure it out, it might have been an emergency or something but who knows.
I do keep my cell phone on at night but i dont here it because its on the other side of the bed where my boyfriend sleeps, and i dont have a table next to my side so i dont bother with the phone when it goes off at night. My phone goes off and buzz's because of the applications i have on there for games and other apps as well like the news and who knows silly things.

Yes, I never turn off my mobile phone even at night.
I keep it on all the time for emergency purposes.
I don't want to miss any text message or calls from my loved ones in case of emergency.
I don't put it on my bedside either, but near my bed enough to reach and could be heard once there is a call or text message.

I would havs assumed that they had texted the wrong number, as almost all my (few) contacts are sved. It could be that a friend has a new number that they had yet to pass on. In that case you would imagine that they would text again. Or, more alarmingly, used their phone to call you......

Hi SomeCowgirl, Yes I keep my cellphone on and by my bedside all night but it only make sound if someone is calling. Usually i turn off the text/message tone so that no one can disturb me while sleeping. I preferred to answer calls than text. Also the reason why i keep my phone on and by my side all night because i stay alone here at home if any problem or any commotion i can easy grab my phone and call my husband immediately.

I would have texted them back when I got up for the day but not when they first texted me. I do keep my phone on charge and right beside of bed when I am asleep as it is the only phone I have and we also use it instead of the alarm clock. It's funny we have like three alarm clocks and never use any of them. We just always use our phone for our alarm. I can understand mistakenly texting someone but that is the reason I save everybody's number in my phone so I don't text someone by mistake.

I leave my cell phone on with the volume off. When i ran my business with computer repairs i learnt to leave the sound off because shift workers would call at 2 or 3 in the morning and think i should go into the office to fix their computer.
I leave it on otherwise so that my alarm in the morning goes off.

I've learned to turn my celphone off at night. Unless of course I would have family out at night, I would have it on just in case.
But if not, I just charge it before I sleep.
I also get emails from my phone, so if I didn't turn it off, I'd be constantly reading emails and texts.

I keep my cellphone on and by bed side all night. Just like you, sometimes when I need to charge it, it will be far away from my bed side.
I like to chat with certain people at night. Sometimes just to browse via my cell phone or doing tweets, sometimes I also visit mylot via my cellphone. When I lie down on my bed, I cannot sleep directly. So I will play with my phone. I type, browse, and sometimes I read my script on phone.
I rarely wake up because of single text. LOL
So, if I were you, since I got it when I wake up, and it is basically in group message, I will just ignore it because I don't know who it is. But if the number is familiar like you said, I will try find the information about the owner of the number. If that is someone I know, I will text that person back.

My cellphone is by my bedside always. I really can't remember receiving a call from an unknown number at night time but for text I already had. When it seems to me that it's not intended for me I just reply that "you sent the message to a wrong number" to enable the sender to check immediately for who knows it maybe an important message that why it was sent at an unholy hour.

Whether it be night or day I never call or text back to an unknown number. Sometimes I get texts from unknown numbers saying, "Hey! How are you? What's going on?" I never reply to such messages nor do I bother to ask who's on the other side.
