desktop or laptop

Philippines

Hello fellow mylotters. I have questions in mind and I hope somebody will spend time to answer them. I am deciding if I'll buy a desktop computer or a laptop computer. For desktop, I can use it anytime I want provided that there's always electricity. Sometimes we have unexpected brownouts so desktop has its disadvantage. However, for a laptop, how long is its battery life? How long can we use its battery before we need to buy another one and replace it? Please feel free to share your thoughts. Happy mylotting everyone and thank you.

I agree with previous post that the desktop is better than the laptop for upgrading and also battery replacement can be expensive.

Oh, it will cost us much money to replace laptop batteries. I guess desktops sound better then. I've been using desktop for four years at work. I'm happy it's still functioning very well especially after reformatting it. Thanks for the info. Happy mylotting.

Oh, yes. Let's be thankful that laptops are invented. They accompany us anywhere we go. LOL. Thank you again.

Sure, the only real advantage to laptops is that they are portable which is nice, but other than this desktops have the most advantages.

It actually depends on your reasons for using a computer. If you are the type that uses computer even when you're not at home then the laptop would do you best, but you only use computer at home, then a desktop is better. For me, I found having a desk top better, because you can easily upgrade it, especially now that computers are fast evolving.

Oh, yes. We can upgrade desktop computers and I guess they have longer lives that laptops? Am I right? Thanks for commenting and happy mylotting.

Yes, you are right. They have longer life span. But if you are the kind of person who uses computer away from home and needs a portable one, then laptop is the way to go. If your problem is the battery life, you can always charge your laptop while using it..

Oh, yes you are right. I guess laptop is better for me. I need to decide well. I want to buy something that I can use for more than 5 years. LOL. Thank for sharing. Happy mylotting.

I prefer desktop and use it all the time, although I do have laptop with built-in wireless connection for when I am away from home. I have found that laptops are far more expensive than desktops, and more expensive to fix if something goes wrong. My desktop top is very robust and reliable - but I will need to "touch wood" there not to attract any problems. _Derek

Oh, I guess we also need to consider about the maintenance. Desktop has more advantages then. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

if i were in your shoes, i would like to buy a laptop because i can bring it whenever i can since i have to move regularly. One more, laptop is small so that it is easy to bring it. Right now laptop is not really expensive, its speed is fast also. I think you should write down both 2 sides for laptop and a PC so that you can consider to buy which one based on what you desire...

Yes, I will do that. I have to compare both very well. Thanks for the information. Some mylotters go for desktops and some go for laptops. I need to decidewell about it. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

I prefer desktop when it comes to online RPG gaming but then again since I'm always on the go, I prefer to have laptop well obviously we can't bring our desktop with us x3 Disadvantages of bringing laptop is the battery life and sometimes from thief so be careful when bringing one.

Oh, yes I agree with you. I hope we can use laptops for at least 6 hours. Yes, laptops are hot to the thieves' eyes. We should be careful. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

It is best that you consider these things. -What type of software are you going to use or install in your computer? Do these software require more computing power? If does so then I suggest you go for a desktop. -Do you travel a lot or always on the go? Do you really need a constant use of a computer wherever you go? If so then you should buy a laptop. A laptop's battery life depends on what power plan you are going to use. These maybe High Performance to Battery Saving Mode. Well of course you're going to use a High Performance mode if the application requires so or else you're laptop will hang or takes very long time to respond. Using a High performance mode consumes more battery power and is very sure to shorten the battery life of your laptop.

I guess signing in to mylot and other earning sites at the same time will need a high performance mode. Am I right? Yes, that's the disadvantage of a laptop. Multi-tasking consumes more battery power. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

I would still go for the desktop due to stability for long-time usage and as above being easily upgradable, and this because I work at home. Although, I do have a laptop as a backup if there are brownouts or if I am going to travel. Performance-wise, I go with the desktop. Convenience-wise, I go for the laptop.

How about both performance and convenience-wise? I hope there will be some laptops in the future that can be upgradable. LOL. You are right. I guess I have to decide about it well. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

To my opinion, i think both desktop and laptop are necessary. If a desktop and a laptop have this same price, certainly the desktop has better perfomance than the laptop, desktop is more convenient for upgrading. So desktop is better for work and entertainment. The most advantage of laptop is that a laptop is smaller than desktop and it's more convenient for carrying. If you have a trip away, i think laptop is better.

It depends on how you're going to use your computer. I like desktop computers in playing games as well as long hours of use. My laptop computer easily heats. I could not use it longer for fear that it may explode. It becomes so hot after hours of use. Its battery, well it may reach until 3 hours if not heavily in use.

I'll use it for article writings, mylotting, etc. I guess laptop has a disadvantage then. Those earnings sites need long hours. Both desktop and laptop have advantages and disadvantages. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

I hate the keyboard on a laptop but you can always get a USB keyboard. Make sure that teh battery is empty before you charge. Negative about laptops, they stay as you buy them, you can onluy add memory(not HDD memory). In a desktop you can changes stuff inside. I would prefer a desktop because you choose all the components. I chose a media desktop and use it as a DVD/Blu ray player too. I picked a motherboard with an HDMI socket.

Oh, yes that's why my husband got himself a desktop. I always stay in another city on weekdays then I go home on weekends. I guess laptop is better but I can also leave my desktop in my boarding house if ever I buy one. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

I would say laptop because it is best in lot of ways and you can take the laptop anywhere you want and the battery life is like for hours, so even if the power is down you will save the time because you can still use the laptop despite the electricity cut out. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

Oh, yes I agree with you. Laptop is very useful in case there would be a brownout. Also, it's handy, we can carry it anywhere anytime. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

If the brownouts are frequent then you must buy a laptop. There is many advantages of a laptop over a desktop. You can use it when it is brownouts there. The regular laptops with recent model and features are not much expensive and cost for $600-$800 (with 1-3 year on site warranty). You can get a new-tech laptop with i3 processor, 500 GB HDD (HARD DISK MEMORY), 14-15.6 inch screen, 4 GB RAM, and other features. The battery back up starts fading away after 1.5 to 2 years. Then you need to change it.

Thanks prakashsahni. Your comment helps me in deciding what to buy. Oh, so the back-up battery is just 1.5 to 2 years then we have to replace it already. That's one of the answers I'm waiting for. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

I would advise that you prefer buying a laptop computer over a desktop computer for efficiency reasons. Laptop batter life can last up to eight hours provided that you buy a model with a six-cell battery. The laptop battery lasts for two years at most. So please do buy a laptop. It gives you more comfort and efficiency.

Oh, thanks for the info. I need a battery that can last from 6 to 8 hours. Yeah, six-cell is good. I remembered my husband told me about it but I wasn't listening to him intently. Bad wife. LOL. I didn't know that I'll need a laptop or a desktop of my own. I guess I'd like to try my luck here in online world. That's why I'm deciding what to buy. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

i think for you is desktop.. so you can do the mylotting everyday.. life span of desktop is longer than laptop..there so many disadvantages in laptop.. you must handle it with care..in power interruption for desktop just use UPS at least for 30mins minimum.. so no problem at all.. if ur worried in like portability there are so many gadgets now you can use.. like cellphone you can connect to internet easy so no trouble at all. maintenance for desktop is cheaper also. what is good about it.. it will last longer as long u keep it upgrade.. hope it helps..^^

Thanks youiemohctar. Yes, you are right. We can sign in to internet using our phones, etc. Maybe, I'll be considering a desktop then. But, I'll just think more about it. LOL. If I'll buy one, I guess I can't buy another one again immediately. LOL. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.
