After the court agreement on this payment arrangement between me and the collection agency, I agree to pay $200 per month until the debt is paid off. With my greatest effort, I manage to pay $100 more per month, after over a year, I almost to pay it off within this month. I just have one more payment to pay, then I am off this debt with Discover card now. Before I make this last payment, should I demand the collection agent to give me the confirmation letter that I paid off all the debt I owe them, and this last payment will clear all of bad - debt record, etc......? Is it how it work, or can anyone give me some advice on this one?

Hi, Every paid debt should be accompanied by an official receipt of payment from the collecting agency. It should be kept in a safe place for references in case of contested payments. I have acquired my appliances through easy loan payments and I don't mind getting the certificate of ownership after the last installment has been paid. I have the complete receipt of payments in my file anyway in just case.

Well, today I called the collection agency office to ask about the confirmation letter, they said that after 1 week I mail in the payment, I can request the confirmation letter by calling them again. Would this procedure sounds appropriate?

I don't know how it works, but I would demand proof. Because those collection agencies will screw you for every penny. My friend didn't keep any proof on her part, and they kept saying she owe so much more. I actually saw a document on tv how companies would screw people to pocket money themselves. I hope you get it figured out and off your plate.

Is there a monthly statement or something of that sort? If there isn't, then you should ask for a letter stating that you have clear the debt. Usually, the banks or credit company will provide one but since you have been dealing with a collection agency, I ain't sure about it. Nonetheless, providing a document should not be too much of a hassle for them.

I think you have every right to ask for a receipt or a confirmation that you have fully paid your debt. That will serve as an evidence that you have fully paid the loan, in case there will be someone from that company demanding for another payment again.

I think if you payed of you payed of and I assume you can prove you payed. So no need to ask for a prove of that. Over here it works like that.. you get registered in a central data base in our country. Five years after everything is payed off the info will be deleted. Which means if you want to buy something (incl. a cellphone) within these 5 years they will check first your paying off history.

I have friends who got some problem the same way with their credit cards, and they also settled through court on the monthly payment until the debt is paid off. What they did is they requested the agency to issue them an updated statement of account each time their check clears and also asks for receipts. I don't know if they were issued for a confirmation letter, nor if the agency issued them one, but I saw they have this official statement of account with debt balances, payments made and lastly a zero balance. My friend kept it all filed in case someone tried to call again and collect some money from here. She was victimized before when she pays the agency only to find out that she has paid more than what she should but since she doesn't have any document proving such, she wasn't able to claim refunds.

I don't have experience with this particular situation, but they should be able to provide you with such a letter. I would definitely get one because you never know if they will act properly in regards to your credit report.you may have to dispute it.

Yes you have to, every collection agency issue an receipt upon payment but if you don't have one you can ask for the statement account of payment you've made. I hope you have some proof that you made some payment in the past, for you can prove them that you are paid incase they don't like to give copy of the record.

you must ask them to offer the comfirmation, it will give you the legal right to sue them when they say you haven't pay all the debts. actually, i think they will give you one .
