While I definitely do agree with you that if you are going to throw away the bags that you get at the grocery store it is better to use paper bags than plastic, I honestly do not believe that plastic bags are all bad if the person that is using them is willing to recycle them.
However, I really think that the ideal solution to it all is to incentivize people to use reusable shopping bags. This could be done by giving shoppers a discount for using reusable bags. Alternatively, shoppers could be charged a small amount to purchase the one time use bags that are so common.

It is good to know that more people are aware of the environment.
They plan to go green, 3R, and do their best to reduce wastage.
Many countries are looking to reduce the usage of plastic bags.
This is indeed a very good move to a better environment, keep
it up. Penang, a state in north of Malaysia is practicing no
plastic bag whole year round.

In my place of stay (Selangor), all the malls practice no
plastic day on Saturday. We are advised to bring our own
bag to put the groceries that we bought. We used the reusable
bag. We also practice the 3R which means Reused, Reduce and Recycle.
We are also going into Green Technology, smart homes etc.

Hi friend, you are right, we must avoid plastic things and use recyclable things to keep our environment in a good manner. Now government are placing strict orders against using plastic things and people reducing their plastic usage in day by day manner.

A lot of consumers will still want plastic bags to use for their regular garbage bags. What would the solution be for regular garbage bags?

I am in support for the use of reusable bags as a replacement for plastic bags but I seem not to agree with paper bags since this will just indirectly affect the demand for paper which means we need to cut more trees as a result of this which is environmentally damaging as well. Although they are saying that paper can be sustainable since they are biodegradable but the supply of wood is hard to replace in here.

Hey i completely support your thought. I think plastic bags should be banned completely for they take several hundred years to get decomposed and also get in to our nature causing some disastrous effects. They should be heavily replaced by the paper bags or jute bags so that at least many people can be employed in this way.
What say?

I would like to add my bit here. I am very lucky to have seen both the types of places where your advice is followed or is taken casually. Here in my college campus there is a ban on plastic bags and all the people mainly shopkeepers follow this change voluntarily. It is great to see their commitment towards nature. This has mainly to do with awareness I would congratulate government as it has played the most vital role in creating this awareness and many more. I have also been to cities where people do not tend to take any advice seriously and which has more to do with the population of the city more than anything else. It is also an example showing that more than education it is the determination that matters.
