Not Enough Hours in a Day

United States
September 14, 2012 7:07am CST
I woke with my hubby at 5:30. Yes, even on my day off I am up early. My body protested! I find it easier to rise early and get a jump on the day. I have carefully planned out my day, but even so I know there will not be enough time to accomplish all I have planned. Not only do I have errands to run today, I want to visit with my mother, my husband's aunt, and a former client who is 97 and in a nursing home. Haven't been to visit my husband's aunt in nearly 3 months. The 97 year old has only 2 people that visit her and I am one of them. Today I feel as if I could just jump in my car and take a long drive, or just stay home and sit in a sunny spot and nap all day. But, that is selfish. I am not a selfish person. Do you to feel there aren't enough hours in a day?

I have certainly felt that in the past, but not recently. Back in January, I was actually glad that my client was in the hospital because we were trying to get the house together for the new roommate and there were many a day when I felt that way.

My house is wrecked because I am unable to do much because of a neck injury. I do a little at a time. Even so, that isn't enough.

Sounds like u have a full day. I'm home all the time & i still feel some days are just not long enough.I don't think u would be selfish at all if u took a 'me day' every once in awhile. We all need time to ourselves or i do anyway, lol.Happy weekend to u.

Lately I only have time for "me" moments. Forget about a whole day to myself. That only happens if I am sick and have to stay in bed all day. Sad.

Oh, I wish that I could get back into getting up early. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I have both been sleeping in recently; he seems to have converted me to his schedule. Typically, my day doesn't start before 9 a.m. So, it's not a surprise that I feel like I blink and the day is over before I've even gotten much of anything done.

I can't do it on less than 7. However, I have in the past.

My husband will sleep late if he has the chance. I can't seem to do that. Once I get my 7-8 hours in, I am rested and can't stay in bed any longer.

I used to be able to run on four or five hours. Now, however, my boyfriend has started pulling me into a nine-hour or so a night deal most nights. I'm totally blaming his influence... and the cats.

Butterfly,I feel like there is not enough hours in the day from time to time! Even though I am single and live by myself! I usaully don't feel like this on my days off but during the work week yes! With my job and work I sometimes don't get everything done in a day! If that happens I end up doing it on the weekend when I am usually off! To bad there is mot more then 24 hours in a day! It would help!

Imagine how exhausted we would be if there were 28 or more hours in a day. I would be falling asleep!

Definitely! 24 hours in a day seem to drift away so fast these days- with the chores that needs to be done everyday, errands to make, one barely has to really have a relaxing time with oneself.

And the one person that never gets time to relax is the one that needs it most!

Well, sometime you have many things to do then you feel that 24 hours a day is very short...but sometime you have nothing to do and you will feel that 24 hours a day is too long..you are an active person, i think , that's why even in a day off, you still wake up so early and do many things... Have a nice day!!!

Lately I have been unable to do the things I once did due to having a neck injury. This bothers me greatly. So I find other things to occupy myself. But, rarely do I sit and relax all day!

often there are not enough hours for me as well. I have work, and then family members who need help. Then there is my hubby who wants to be on my list. And of course my friends online and off want my attention as well. I can so identify the need to just sit and do nothing but recharge.

Back home on Mars, a day is 24 and a half hours long... maybe that's why we can never get everything done here on Earth. I want to visit my auntie, too. She's only 90.

We need to be happy with what we are able to accomplish and sit back and enjoy the rest of the day. There is always tomorrow to complete a task.

i think there are days like that. especially for the working people of which i was once one of those. now there are days that are way to long. since im retired an old man i worked with once had a great reply when i asked him how he could be at work so early in the morning and all happy and chipper when he could retire he said its something to get up for. if i didnt have this job id lay in bed all day and eventually just die. after all these years i know now what he meant.

I doubt I will ever fully retire. I will most likely not work full-time, but then again who knows what will happen. If not work I will volunteer.

Most definitely! I have 2 kids . . . one is 7 and the other is 2. My hubby is out from about 7am to around 8pm . . . so I hold the fort all day. I get my daughter up and ready for school - meanwhile getting the little one up too. I get breakfast and snack/lunch out, take my daughter to school along with the little one who has to come by no choice, then my son and I walk around to find his roly pollies, then we get to his class . . . then we run errands or sometimes go on our adventures. Then we come home and he goes down for a nap (most times). I have an hour and a half of some me time maybe which means getting lunch for me and having some computer time). Then it's time to get my son out of bed, pick up my daughter, possibly play around at school, get her home, do homework, then go to tae kwon do, then go home, get dinner out, wash up, get kids in bath and bed . . . and by that time the day is done and I've barely gotten anything else done!! Phew!! It'd be easier if I didn't sleep at all, but that's just not possible. So in short, you are right, there aren't enough hours in the day!! Oh yes, and I like to get up as early as possible too . . . it doesn't always work out the way I want it to!!

Life happens while we are making plans. Even the best laid plans rarely work out. But, we need to roll with the punches and get through as best we can.

Your grandmother was a wise woman. We need to heed the words of those who have seen more years than us. We could learn a lot from them.

I prioritize my task so I can be able to do what should be done first. I based my decisions on the importance and the urgency of the matter. Is this thing important and urgent? or this thing might be important but not urgent. If there are times that I think I don't have enough time to do all the things that should be done, it is okay. There is still tomorrow.

Hi friend, same here, 24 hours is not enough for busy persons like us, most of the days i wake up around 5 am and start to do all my activities, i go to bed around 10.30, but don't get a proper sleep till 11.30, i think about my activities for around 1 hour and plan about the next day

I feel like that most days. I am a stay at home mom and you would think I would have all day to do things but chasing around a 16 more old takes up a lot of the time. I have plans each day of things I want to get done and it rarely all gets accomplished.

Enjoy your little one for all too quickly they grow. The mundane tasks will be there when you can find time for them. Babies are only little once.

Yes, I used to feel that all of the time but now, due to urgery I have slowed down. I know that when I get back home then my life will be busy again with part time work, children and grandchildren. My grand twins are already living at my house. So it will be bck to being busy not bored

Money is not enough and Time is never enough! Everyone wish they could have more that 24 hours in a day. I like your attitude of rise early and planned ahead to fulfill and maximise your day! Keep it up! We should live our life to the fullest and making another person happy is truly a joy! Have a great and fruitful weekend ahead!

Hi there ElusiveButterfly, There were really times that I do feel that I am always running out of time. That no matter how I budget my time, still, it is not enough. As a result, I am always doing some cramming. I am just thankful that God is always there and He always help me to finish it though.

Yes i do Elusive! Sometimes i used to feel that way too. My body tend not cooperate with my head. I think probably one reason is due to stress of previous work that my body was tired or something. Or maybe i lack of sleep? or just laziness. Whatever the reasons are! I do need to fulfill what i had set in my schedule because i don't want to spoil things out of my selfishness or laziness. Not unless if my body will no longer capable of doing it. Of course that will be an excuse already and void.

I know what you mean. There are days that I need more hours just to rest or to finish what I need to finish. Or more hours to spend time with my loved ones. Most of the time this happen to me when I am in a middle of deadlines piling up on top of a busy season. Then right after that heavy traffic of things to do, I will be left wanting something to do. And unsurprisingly, I am wishing for the time to pass by quickly, lol!

We spend more time wishing the time to pass quickly only to one day realize we have wished our lives away rather than stopping long enough to enjoy it.
