My dog is limping

I have a 4 year old German Shepherd and she is limping a bit. It doesn't seem so bad that she can not put weight on it and she is only limping a little but obviously something about her left front paw or leg is bothering her. I checked all of her pads and they all seem fine, there are no cuts or splitting, they all look healthy so she must have pulled something. She is not limping that badly I will wait a couple of days to see if she heals on her own, if she is not better in a couple of days I will take her to the vet. I hate going to the vet though because we never get out of there for less than $300 and I just don't have that kind of money right now. If she is still limping in a couple of days though that will mean something is terribly wrong and I will take her in.

One thing I'm happy about after reading your discussion is that you WILL take her to the vet to find out what is wrong. I read so many discussions here where their animals, cats or dogs, are in pain and they won't take them to the vet because it's so costly. I really understand how costly, but how can you watch your animal suffer? One dog had a bone chip caught in between it's teeth and they didn't want to take it to the vet because of cost. REALLY??? Anyways, haha, I would give it a day or two and see if she just sprained it a bit or pulled a muscle. They are big dogs and I can see that happening easily. I know you checked it already so you know it's not a thorn or something of that nature. I would think the quieter she is, the better. Hope it all works out for you and she's up and running in a couple of days.

I agree 100% and I do understand people when they can't afford it. But, since the economy is so down I've noticed more and more places opening up that will do pet care for lower prices, and if that's the route you have to take, it's better than not going and leaving your animal in pain. That's a killer.

She actually seemed much better today, hardly limped at all, so I think it was just a minor tear, but I will continue to monitor her.

She still ran to the front door and barked at the mailman like she felt no pain at all. The boys went outside and played football and she wanted to go out so badly, but I didn't let her out because I didn't want her to hurt her leg more. I think if you have a pet that you should be willing to do what ever it takes to take care of them, even if it hurts the wallet like it sometimes does.

My dog limps sometimes too. He usually has one of those burrs in his little paws. He won't let me near them. Somehow, he gets them out of his own with his teeth! Of course, then he drops them on the floor and we step on them! Ouch! I hope your dog is okay by now. I am late responding to this! I hope it's nothing serious.

She is fine now. it must have been a very minor pull, what ever it was it went away on its own. It's funny he won't let you pull them out. "No, no I will do it myself."

lol! Yep, that is exactly the look he has on his face. The funniest part is watching him pull it on with his teeth. He's gotten quite good at it!

My dog has went through a short lived limping phase a couple of times, I think it's because he loves to pull when he gets walked and he pulls something the wrong way. As of lately I've also noticed that his nails are getting too long and I think this can also cause limping. I hope everything is OK with your dog, maybe he just pulled something.

I do hope she is better now. She might even have arthritis, animals get that too.

I'm so sorry she is limping but being the care taker of animals you have to plan for this ahead of time if possible and possibly they might accept a payment plan. She could have something as severe as cancer or maybe arthritis, both are painful though. I wish you the best and please keep us updated. I feel bad when my furbabies are not feeling well or hurting. Just cause they cannot talk doesn't mean they don't have the right to health care like we do. I've spent a small fortune on my cats so I know how you feel but I'd hate myself if I didn't get them the care they needed.

I am keeping my eye on it. The limp is only slight. If it gets worse at all I will of course take her in right away. She is only 4 so I doubt it arthritis, she probably just ran on it wrong yesterday. She is laying down relaxing right now which hopefully will help her heal up.

Actually something just reminded me of what might have happened. We have hardwood floors and yesterday my dog heard another dog barking out in front of the house, so she got excited and ran over to the window, when she did that she kind of fell a bit. I didn't think much of it because she does that sort of thing all the time, but she must have gotten hurt this last time.

I'm sorry to heart that. But how could be $300 wo see a vet? it's too expensive.I don't know what's the matter with your dog.She may be hurt herself careless. If she can't heal by herself, you must see a vet with she.I wish your dog recover at an early date!

I think you should try to take to a doctor or veterinary hospital or some pet organizations where they treat the dog. I hope there might be someone who can take care with less fees than $300. I hope your dog get well soon.
