Do You Remember "The Rifleman" TV Series With Chuck Conners?

Soooo, I was watching the Rifleman, which is one of my favorite old time TV series with Chuck Conners today. They have all these old cowboy tv serials on Saturdays and I watch them all...silly me. This includes The Rebel, Bonanza, The Big Valley, and more. I watch them because I remember how I use to with my father back a long, long time ago. I'm sure most of you won't remember them at all...just us old folk here, haha! I was just thinking though when I was watching The Rifleman...it was a blizzard and Lucus McCain and his son Mark, were in the barn and you could hear the wind howling and the snow was so thick you almost couldn't see in front of you. They left the barn and made in back to their tiny cabin where it was warm and toasty. The next thing you know, a few people showed up in a stagecoach and Lucus (Chuck Conners) knew the driver, and the driver said they can't go any further because of the snow drifts. They were looking for shelter and Lucus of course invited them in. He gave up his beds for them and fed them from what they had for supper. One of them was a gunslinger and had killed someone, but, it wasn't his fault and Lucus always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. My point is that I can't even imagine doing this today if 4 or 5 people showed up at my door knocking to come in because they couldn't go any further in their CARS. Same thing only a bit differnt. What would you do? Could you let someone stay at your house that were total strangers and you didn't know anything about them. And, feed them, plus find a place in your little home for them to sleep?

I loved that show too. I probably wouldn't for fear of getting taken advantage of. I could offer my garage as it's at the back of my property and away from the house. If they needed to store their car or just have shelter.

I think everybody just about loved that show. We all still need a hero and we did back then too. There you go..at least you'd be able to help someone and it's far enough away from you to be safe. It's pretty sad that's the way we have to think today.

Sadly to say, no i wouldn't. People are not like they use to be, too much darn meaness. I don't even go to the door if someone knocks on my front door because everyone that i know comes to my side door on my carport. I know if someone knocks on my front door it is someone who has never been here before.

It is sad isn't it? I live in an apartment nnd I don't open the door either if someone knocks. I have two doors, one I use and one I don't. When my kids come they will knock on the one door first and then go to the other one so I know it's them. How crazy is all this..really. It looked so easy and helpful on the show.

I like the Rifleman series and I have noticed that McCain is a very kind and generous person. I guess that times were different then. Me, I would not even dream of having a stranger in my home so that would be out of the question.
