Yesterday, the Philippine Visayas island of Samar was rocked by 5.6 intensity earthquake. The key to surviving the onslaught of earthquake is early prediction and preparation. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at present has no equipment that can predict earthquake. Can anybody give ideas how to predict earthquake?

Many Scientist in this world had tried to predict Earthquake, but the others are not successfully to predict Earthquake.Because the process causes earthquake mostly occur far below the earth's surface. There are many tectonic plates of the earth's crust that rub together and cause earthquake and their interactions are complex. This makes very hard to study, that no one can predict Earthquake's.

good evening sir! for me, i think what we should do is not to panic. for that's the only thing that will help us, and only God can predict it, is it?, for me "nothing is impossible with God", right?

I am not aware of any instrument or gadget that can actually predict when an earthquake will actually occur. I do not think we can actually get away with this natural occurrence.

The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire so earthquakes are common phenomena and must be anticipated at all times. While I personally do not know any fool-proof early detection device for earthquakes, I think our government must invest in quality seismographs and quality seismologists. It wouldn't do if the budget for such department will be put to waste. They just have to think the lives that could have been saved and livelihood that could have been spared if they have a very reliable system.
In fairness to the DOST, we can see some of their efforts in warning people about the risky areas or earthquake-prone sites with fault-lines. Some people are just too stubborn to heed their warning.
