Watching TV was the way I used to rest with mainly. I used to watch several different programmes. But I have not retained this habit that much, and I was just thinking that lately I do not get to spend as much time watching TV programmes as I used to before the internet became such a major force. Now I prefer to spend time surfing the net rather than watching a TV programme. Do you think the internet has reduced the popularity of TV programmes a bit?

You might have gone to college/university. You might have gone to a job that requires much responsibilities. You might have been involved in a serious relationship. Whichever it is, there's always something that would occupy your daily routine.
Kids, children, college students, and people who stay at home more would have more time watching TV compare to those that spend regular time at work. When they get home, they may watch some. They can only watch when they have time.
I missed many TV shows some years ago when I was in college and was living on a tight budget. Even today, I try to be selective. For example, there has not been any sitcom that I'm really hooked on since the end of 'Friends'. Sometimes, I would not why I am hooked on a certain TV show.
In the future, TV and internet are going to be more and more integrated. For example, check out Yahoo. There is a movie(I don't whether it is really a movie or not, but it is made specifically for internet viewing.)

No , I think the type of shows has reduced the popularity of t.v. shows. If you are not into reality shows or crime dramas or medical shows why bother watching t.v.? These past two years I have seen more t.v. because I found a few reality shows I like.

i have certain shows which are my favorites such as the news, nancy grace, dancing with the stars, warehouse13, perception, hell on wheels, america's got talent just to name a few. i get on the internet as much as i can. it may have something to do with the internet, but people may still be in the habit of watching tv. there are so many gadgets today too. i am sticking with the basics of what i have. too many gadgets like smart phones, ipads, etc. bring on more problems. i have to take it slowly.

I will admit that there are still a lot of television programs that I enjoy watching. However, I will also say that I don't watch nearly as much television now as I used to do when I was younger. The main reason that I give this answer is because of the fact that I have two children that I have to take care of. However, even more than that, I think that one of the reasons that I don't watch as much television now as I used to is because of the fact that I do spend a lot of time working on the computer.

Between articles and novel writing I write for about ten hours a day. I write an article, get up for a five minute stretch, sit down again and write some more. When I switch the computer off, however, I make something to eat - sometimes as late as eight at night, and switch off the tv and watch either two or three movies or a whole series at a time. I love film - I even watch Jerry Springer if I want to be shocked. I work hard and I play hard.

I do watch less tv. I would rather be on the computer, although the rest of the family likes to watch lots of tv.

Honestly this day I rarely watch television mostly because I don't find it interesting and just wasting my time. Like celebrity news or just soap opera. News this day all about politic and its made you headache just to hear it, because when I hear it, I know its just a bunch of lie.
They are certain show that's I like and I can see it on YouTube every time I had spare time. Its obvious television its not basic necessity in our house we can life without it and even feel productive we not watching it because we can use time to watch TV to do something else.

As i'm a software programmer, computer is my work tool. I have to work with computer during my working time each working day. So i feel very tired and don't want to be in the front of computer any more after work. I prefer to watch TV rather than surfing the net at home. Even though most programs are bored, but i enjoyed watching TV without any thought, which can make rest.

When t.v. became digital I lost interest in t.v. We've had cable t.v. and satellite t.v., but to me it just doesn't seem like the programs are really worth watching anymore. With the internet you can watch movies and watch videos of news, so why would one need to pay for satellite or cable to be informed or entertained?

I admit I was a tv addict especially with soap dramas... But I only can watch during night time because I have work.
10 years after, yes also I have decreased my TV time. But not because of internet. But because of my babies. Night time is the only time we can give and spend with them in a day. So we see to it that we give them playtime (well this includes reading books, watching educational videos, sing songs, watching their favorite cartoon on Disney Channel) at least for 30minutes a day, before bedtime.
I still get to peep at some drama soaps. But once my child says "Kirby wants to watch Word World or Timmy Time (which is shown simultaneously with my favorite drama show)" I have no choice but to give in. I will just then ask our helper who is watching at the living room for the updates ;)

sometimes , i like to escape from web and just sit there waiting for a tv program start.

Me too. since internet become faster, cheaper and easier to get everywhere in my place, I'm much with internet. Obviously it has reduced TV popularity. I think everything I can find in the internet, TV channel worldwide, specific TV program or a movie can be found on internet. So, it's make TV became less function than before as it has taken by internet. I only watch TV when time come for news, though I can read them on internet, but still consider to listen TV news on latest news.

Maybe not reduced it - just made people more conscious of what they are watching and choosing more wisely.
I used to watch more t.v. when I was younger and had far fewer responsibilities. Also, now, with our DVR and DVD player - we can watch most shows we want to at any time. Plus, I can watch movies on the internet when I wish, starting and stopping them as I need to. LIke now, I gotta go walk a dog...lol.

Now I do not spend most of my time watching TV programs since I'm always in front of the computer doing homeworks, coding programs and watching basketball videos or highlights and also listening to music and reading up news from Yahoo! Internet also has tv channels nowadays but you have to shell out some cash and pay for it.

Yes. It has. The 1970s and 1980s saw the wide acceptance of television as a source of news and entertainment. Watching a TV programs are a treat and a family affair.
Not anymore today. The advent of the internet has expanded people's choice of news and entertainment. Accessing news and information today has become cheaper. Watching movies can be scheduled because most of your popular shows are already stored in online databases.
I find it boring today to be in front of that good old tube. Times have changed a lot.
