Edible plants

So vaguely remember my father, when I was growing up, walking through the garden and picking up randome leaves and flowers and saying "you know you can eat these" and then shoving them in his mouth and chewing away. I cannot really remember what plants and flowers they were though. Then the other day I was walking along the path and saw a plant that I could swear was one of the flowers that he used to munch on every now and then - but I didn't want to try it incase it is not the same one!! I think it is a nasturtium. Does anyone know if it is an edible plant and also what other common plants and flowers in the garden are edible - and even healthy!

Not sure about nasturiums. If in doubt, don't do it.
Dandelion leaves are just like lettuce. Wash first, of course. But they perk up a salad something nice.

My family used dandelion in salads. I always found them bitter. My dad used to show me plants too, mostly leaves - mint for example. I would never try this on my own. There's got to be a website to help you identify the plants.

I have heard of people drinking dandelion tea but I must admit that I have never heard of it being used in a salad. What does it taste like. There is one thing for a plant to be edible and not make you sick but then it is another thing for the plant to actually taste nice so that you want to eat it. The texture is also a big part of what makes a plant nice to eat.

Nasturtiums are edible. You can cut the leaves and mix them for a special green salad (you can also add arugule), but the best is to use the edible beautiful flowers to enhance your dish! You can search at the web about edible plants (leaves, flowers, you name it). It´s helpful and you will feel closer to your father every time you eat "his" salads
