So i have been thinking alot about becoming a vegan lately for my health and because i think it is a lifestyle that woul fit me best. But i feel like it would be a hard thing to stick with when my whole family is the complete opposite. I love to just eat fruit and nuts and organic foods but alot of relatives think im being unhealthy and just dieting which is not something i am trying to do. What do you guys think?

I would not want to be vegan but maybe I could try to be vegetarian. I think that there are too many limitations in a vegan´s way of eating and many times tou cannot even find what you need for a healthy meal at a reasonable price. Now I eat everything, but the older I get, the less I eat meat, specially red meat. But I would like to go on eating fish, eggs and milk, cheeses and other foods that vegans don´t eat.

Each peron knows what is best for their body. I love eggs and they are part of my everyday diet.

We wish you all the very best on the path.
I believe the English have an old saying that goes something like: the strongest tree grows in the most unfriendly soil.
Prove them all wrong. Eat in an abundance that few know nor even care about. Watch your balance of all the vegan food groups, like vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, grains, legumes, oils, etc. My local store boasts over 96 varieties of legumes alone... there's so much more than that in The States. Read up in books & online all you can & put it all into practice bit by bit. Get involved in soaking & sprouting. Keep a diary & note how much you improve every day. Keep records of your weight & height so you can shut anyone down instantly who unjustly accuses you of dieting. And finally, find 100% vegan organic eateries in your local area & go there as often as you are able. Even if you can't afford it, ask the owner for the recipe & make it at home. In my experience, every owner of vegan eateries here is very happy to share their recipes with you, whereas those who are not vegan typically have excuses like "commercial in confidence" or "it's my intellectual property", etc.
More power to you!

I am a vegan and my family used to be, just like me in the past, typically meat eaters. But at the moment my sister is almost vegan - she eat fish from time to time, but no more often that once a month I think. My father has diabetes and other health conditions. He is not vegan but he don't eat red meat and milk products. He liked ham a and sosuage a lot but now he won't eat it. It's because the last time he did it - it was few years ago and he knew he shouldn't do this - he visited a hospital for almost a month because of pancreatitis. It taught him that processed meat is no more food for him LOL. My mother also eats only a little animal foods. It took few years for my family to get used to eat mostly whole plant foods, but they were not healthy and verweight so they decided (with my help;) to make some changes.
They take vitamin b12 and vitamin D in winter to make sure they won't have health problems. And they eat fresh mixed flax seeds every day as omega3 source.
If you really want to be a vegan I'm sure you'll manage to do it. But don't be frustrated if you fail from time to time. It does not harm your health if you eat animal products in really small amounts, for example eating fish once a month or even once a week is not something that will really harm your health. Beeing vegan is a great idea but some people are too serious about that and they feel guilty after eating animal product.
Hope you'll find a way to your health and to be happy and that your family will support you whatever you decide. Have a nice day, jazgottt.

This is one of the greatest test for you. Having stick to your diet really needs lot of sacrifice and discipline. You will face different temptations.
Just have be consistent on your diet and I know they will see a big difference on you.

I am not against being vegan but I think just the proper diet can help us make healthy. Protein should be a major factor in putting up a very healthy lifestyle. Just the exact proportion of each kind of food should be substantial enough.

I don't recommend that you follow a vegan diet. I watched a feature in one of the shows comparing the health analysis on five people who follow a strict diet of- vegan, vegetarian, meat and veggies, lean meat diet and a guy on a fatty meat diet. Results showed that the person who followed a vegetarian diet had the best test laboratory results followed by the meat and veggies. The fatty meat eater had the highest concentration of bad cholesterol levels while the vegan was depleted of essential nutrients that could only be come from a protein diet. I suggest you go vegetarian and not deplete your diet of proteins from eggs and milk.:)
