I just don't like mushrooms. I have tried every kind and I always find them unappealing. They taste like dirt or wood or forest for me. My boyfriend even made a chicken pot pie and hid the mushrooms there but I still detected it. Do you know any recipes that would make mushrooms taste a little better. Or is there something that I should do to like it more. I don't want removing it from my plate when I attend dinner parties. It makes me look snooty.

I am not a big mushroom lover. I could easily live without them, but I can eat them if they are fried or something like that. I wouldn't say that I like fried mushrooms, but I can eat them. It is not hard for me to eat fried mushrooms when I am at a dinner party, but I would never use them when I cook my own food. Raw mushrooms that is different. I absolutely don't like them. My ex-boyfriend ate raw mushrooms all the time and he found them delicious. I have also seen many other people eat them raw for instanse in salad, but personally I always remove them if they are raw even at a dinner party.

It is fine not to like mushrooms, not everyone likes or can eat everything but if you really want to then the best is to start slow. The taste you describe of wood and forest is what most people enjoy in mushrooms so stronger tasting mushrooms will be more intense. The best is to go for a blander mushroom then coat it with something to mask the taste, the problem with mushrooms is that they are full of flavour and that works well for people, like me, who do enjoy them but like you mention even hidden in a pie you were able to detect them. You shouldn't force yourself too much, when going out if there are mushrooms in your meal, you can avoid them, maybe eat one or two, to try out - you may get a surprise and find one you like, but everyone leaves things on their plate that they don't like so it is fine.

If you don't want to be sitting there picking out pieces of mushroom when you are at a social event, you can either skip dishes that contain mushroom or you can just deal and eat what you take (and try to avoid taking helpings of the dish that have nice, big visible chunks of mushroom).
There isn't really a way to force yourself to like a food. You can keep trying different types of mushrooms, and you may one day find that you no longer mind them or may even start to like them. Our tastes in food can change over time, after all. You can incorporate them into a variety of dishes. However, there is no guarantee; you may just never grow to like them.

I have taught my grandchildren to learn to likr new things by eating just a small spoon of the new flavour for some time, until their taste buds get acostumed to thwm. Why don`t you try that? I love mushrooms, but if you don`t like them, you will not like my recipes.

I love eating mushrooms. And I the best would be including it with stir fry noodles.

Hi,
I don't know mushrooms could taste like that. I've been eating them since I was a child, roaming the woods and collecting them under rotten trees, roasting and eating with a pinch of salt and vinegar. I think it is the way I masked their woody taste, I don't know if it suit your taste.
The way I see it, you don't like the food very much, its a matter of taste really, and there's nothing you can do about it.

I really like mushrooms, especially if they made for soup or pizza topping. As a child I did not like mushrooms because it's little slimy, but my mother fried and mix with the chilli so it looks and feels like chicken.
