Hi all!
It has always been a great pleasure to read comments on my responses submitted in response to various interesting discussions. However, now a days what I am seeing in my inbox stumps me. I notice that I am now a days receiving notifications intimating me about comments on my responses which I posted in response to some discussions which are older than 3 years.
I wonder how the concerned mylotter could search my response to post his/her comments after lapse of so many months.
Has it happened with you when you received comments on your responses which were submitted by your years ago and what was your reaction seeing the comments.
Please share your experiences and views.
Have a nice day.

that is good, I myself post comments on old discussions if i come across because when I am fast and have responded to all the discussions that are new, today's top and recent ones, I just generally go to any other discussions and if I come across good one I respond even it is years old discussion. I can't tell about my discussions because i am 3 months old here and yes my earlier comments do get response too. Good for you in this case. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

Hi riya!
Welcome to my post. There is nothing wrong in posting responses to older discussions, if they are of any interest to us. I also sometimes post my responses to older discussions, specially started by my 'friends' here on mylot.
What baffled me is - delay in posting comments on my responses to the discussions started by other mylotters.
I wonder what made them so late to post their comments. If a discussion is more than 3 years older, I myself forget the context and while reading the comments I myself has re-read my own response.

Hi deepak, it has happened to me a couple of times and it makes me feel very happy when that happens.I think one of my discussions which was also 3 years old received a couple of responses recently and once it surfaces, more people tend to respond to it..I think the topic is clear enough

Hi Kiran!
I agree with you that some mylotters respond to our very old discussions and it is always a pleasure to see new responses. However, I was surprised to receive delayed comments on my responses submitted to discussions started by others .
Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad to see it wasn't just happening to me!I recently decided to finally resolve my old discussions, but in doing so, I noticed that some older than four years had been commented on in the last 12-18 months. It was weird because I didn't remember even receiving notifications!
Some of my older discussions featured my former boyfriend and my needing advice-it was weird when a couple of them had new responses offering advice! It did feel quite strange too, almost eerie in a way.

Actually, I was the one needing advice regarding how to handle situations that involved him. But it's all good now-he's out of my life and I've moved on.

It is good that you finally decided to resolve the older discussions and in this way you could know that your former boy friend needed your advice.

Yes dpk, before I came back here just this year, for being offline for almost 3 years I saw some discussion of mine from about 4 to 5 years that has also responses from some newbie and some friends. I'm very happy that even it's been an old discussion still they are willing to respond.

First of all you are looking great in your profile picture. .
It means you also commented back on your old discussions when you re-surfaced. Hope the newbies would have appreciated your efforts.

I have joined Mylot recently and started only a few discussions till now.So I have received responses to my discussions that I had initiated only one or two months back. But I have sometimes responded to a few discussions initiated by others 3 or 4 years ago.None of my such responses was commented back.Perhaps nobody has the time to comment back on the responses to old discussions.

Hi there!
I agree with you that your responses must be commented back and acknowledged by other mylotters. It will give you a kind of boost to post more responses.
Thanks for sharing.

Hey i can understand what u might have felt after seeing your old discussions being commented again after so many years. This has happened with me also. Ever since i have joined Mylot, i have had so many discussions which had no responses at all but nowadays i see those discussions being answered again by the Mylotters and i felt a bit weird and thought for a while how this is possible. Ha ha ha.
What say?

Hi!
Thanks for kick starting the post. I mentioned about delay in posting comments on my responses to the discussions started by other lotters. I did not talk about my old discussions. Please check the post again.

That happened to me too, it is interesting going back to read the posts so many months or years back. The person who replied to my post, was the person who put up the discussion so I assumed they had decided to close the discussions on their page and gave a quick look through the comments, giving comments on the ones they wanted to. I have done something similar, discussions that were posted ages ago can still appear on the right hand side of the screen as interest to a discussion that I just answered and on more then one occasion that discussion is older, I have on occasion replied only to realize the discussion was posted so long ago.

Nice to hear that it happened to you too. You may be right that the host wanted to close the discussion, however, before doing that s/he just thought it right to post comments on the responses. Thanks for joining.

We are fortunate to still be able to view and respond to past years discussions. There seem to be no cut off time for discussions here. Even when we consider past discussions as history b ut they are never meant to be stored away and not meet sunshine again. The wheel of mylot discussions continue to spin as long as there are still people reading and responding to them. It is good that people show interest to what we wrote by adding their views .

Hi Zandi!
You are right that it always feels great to see responses to our older discussions.
However, here is a different case.
The considerable delay in posting comments on my responses to the discussions started by other mylotters surprises me.
I wonder what made them so late to post their comments. If a discussion is more than 3 years older, I myself forget the context and while reading the comments I myself has to re-read my own response.

Hi dpk
Maybe some people don't even look at the date which happened to me sometimes. Some people out of curiosity might be checking on your profile page to check on your past discussions and were tempted to respond to them regardless of the date. It happened to me when this person who has not been active for a while made a surprise return by responding to some twenty of my discussions that was started years back. I was also at a lost about the topics and need to refresh by going through the discussions. Mylot is full of surprises and this incident has surely been a pleasant surprise for me.

If you're wondering how others are able to locate your discussion after so many years, this is where the tags come in useful. When myLot members use the myLot search engine to search for a topic they might be interested in, the terms they type into the search field would be correlated with the tags that we had entered when the discussion was started or responded to. In fact, when I want to find discussions that interests me (even if the discussion was started a LONG time ago), I rely on the myLot search engine and the tags to bring me to those discussions.
On another note, I just had a response today from a fellow myLot friend for a discussion that I started 5 years ago when I first joined myLot. Having friends look up your discussion-started list is another avenue that may help get responses to your old discussions. Honestly, I am still thrilled to receive a response after so long even though the discussion might have already become irrelevant today.

Yes, you have mentioned a good idea that people could search discussions by using search engines and could reach any discussion.

People find discussions through a variety of ways. MyLot often suggests discussions on similar topics to ones you have posted or responded to. It doesn't show old those discussions are.

Hi dpk!
Well, it's good to be remembered - hee hee! I like revisiting discussions - particularly if it's mine. I forget all about them honestly especially it's been too long, so it's nice when the topic is brought up again. I know, I know, and how do you react to replies to messages that take so long to get to you? I actually did start writing - then when I had to step off the computer for a moment, my child closed the entire window by accident - ahhhhhhh!)

Hi much2say!
It is always pleasure to see old discussions. However, if the discussion is too old sometimes it loses its relevance and context.
I am surprised to see comments on my responses given ages ago. I had to re-read the discussion to understand my own response ..... Lol!
Have a nice day!

I think this might have happened to me once or twice. My first reaction was like, I didn't know what to respond to it or if it is still something worth discussing anymore especially if a long time has passed. Still, I'd have to say that I still welcome those comments or responses and would still love to hear what others think.
Maybe they came across your discussion just now, probably because they used the search engine and were looking for a particular topic that interest them. And your discussion might have popped up. I used to do this, but if a discussion seems obsolete in a sense, even though it tackles something I might be searching for, I try to look for other discussions instead.

Just the other day, I responded to a discussion that was over 6 years old.
And I know from the way I get responses to my discussions that every new comment makes the discussion like-new (moves it to the top of the 'my discussions'-list & sends a new email if the starter has email-alerts turned on for that).

Deepak, good to know that you got comments to your comments after years, really it is a great thing and you must proud about it. May be the persons are not active here and busy with their offline activities, so they don't have time to reply to your comment soon, but they are giving importance to your comments and reply to them. Some times i find some replies to my old topics, but till today i don't find any later comments in this sort

Whatever the reason, I like to see a revival of old discussions. I have at times replied to old notifications in my inbox and also received responses to a lot of old discussions. It feels nice that people read our old discussions and take trouble replying them.

Yes,I have given such responses. When I go through the discussions,I find that sometimes the discussions would not have the full information or now that time has past,it would have the recent advancements and upgrades. So I would give it a hand ti write about the recent opinions and thus if anyone else searching for the information would not only get the trend in the past but also the glimpse of the present day happenings in relation to that subject.

Hi surekha!
There is nothing wrong in posting a response to 5 or 6 years old discussions. You could always do that and many mylotters do like it.
Commenting back on responses after 2-3 years loses the relevance of starting a post.
Thanks for sharing.

HI deepak, Different thing appeal to people at different phases of their life. As a child, one likes to play and run, then grows up to do and like mylotting as adult. Things which do not appeal to me now may get my attention after a period of time depending upon my new interests and circumstances. the fact is that people grow and explore different things.
Also, people may respond after a break like me though it is not for years but few months.

Hi Shweta!
Yes, people would have difference preferences and choices and they do things as per their own liking and wishes.
Responding to a comment or response after a reasonable time is acceptable, but when it is too late, the original 'response' loses its relevance and one tends to forget the entire sum and substance of discussion and response.
Thanks for sharing your views.

Hi dpk, One of my discussion got responded after few months. I thought discussion will no more get responded or response commented. May be there are mylotters who try to search out their topic. May be they are real mylotters who are learning as well as earning. Wish them happy mylotting.
