Hi all!
I am at loss of words and feel like splitting my hair. Want to know - why?
I started a post regarding 'comments after many years' today.
To my dismay and disappointment except one or two mylotters all the respondents thought that am discussing about my old discussions (which I was not).
All who responded are well respected friends and are seasoned mylotters but they did not get to the crux of the discussion which is very surprising.
Shall I conclude -
(a) my discussion was not clear and it did not convey the intended meaning?
(b) the language used in the discussion was not proper?
(c) the respondents did not read the discussion carefully?
Does it happen with you also when you start a discussion with a specific point in mind but you get responses wide off the mark?
Please share your views.
Thanks for your responses in advance.

Well I just responded of what I believed what I understand.
And upon reading those who respond too it seems we do have the same understanding.

Oh no!! My apologies, dpk! Ok, I just reread your discussion several times. Are you saying that people are NOW commenting to YOUR responses to OTHER PEOPLE's discussions that were posted a while ago?
If that is the case, I think my comment to your discussion would almost be the same. It may not have been your discussion, but for someone to comment on your response would still be commenting to an old discussion (the discussion as a whole).
But I think I see what you mean . . . if you were to get a comment on your comment from long ago, you would have to reread the discussion to understand what they were talking about!
And if it's the person to whom your were commenting to, oh yes, it's definitely a LATE comment back! Maybe they did not see your comment the first time around and just came back to the discussion themselves to discover it?
I guess my reaction would be that at least someone read my comment (because sometimes we're not too sure). So it's nice to know see that someone will actually comment on a comment - even if it takes a million years - hee hee!!
But back to THIS discussion!
I think perhaps the emphasis was on the time (beit years or months) of a discussion so people automatically jumped to thinking "old discussions" . . . comments, responses, posts are one in the same at that point, I guess. You did indeed say "comments on responses", but I did not think about that clearly - so sorry, my friend!!
Oh yes, it happens to me too that some of the answers are way off the mark. Like on another discussion, I was talking about someone else, and the person kept giving ME advice on what I should do (but it wasn't about me!!!!!). Sigh. Well, it happens, dpk. No wonder life is full of misunderstandings sometimes, right?!

Hi much2say!
No apologies are required. You are a respected friend and you could write anything.
Yes, I was talking about discussions started by other mylotters and my responses to those discussions. I had to re-read the entire (old) discussions to understand my own response(s) and comments of the host.
You are correct that we should always welcome comments even if they are late.
I agree that sometimes respondents give us advice on the issue, other than mentioned in the post.
Thanks for your detailed response.
One of the best response so far.

I just responded to your 'comments after many years' discussion, I hope I got what you asked. It is interesting thought that at times when responding to a discussion, you start off answering the question, and before you know it, you are taken to a totally different place.
In response to your questions above. The discussion seemed quite straightforward.

This happens to me plenty of times as well, and it can be a bit discouraging. Atleast a few did understand. Sometimes I try to make the others understand as well, sometmes it's a matter of being lost in translation.

Nice to see you here. Yes, you are right sometimes we need to explain in details so that others could understand what we are mentioning the post. Thanks for sharing.

Hi deepak once again, i feel so sorry for what you felt. But i would say it happens. Its unfortunate that not one or two but a few people did not get your message as you intended. infact i agree with your conclusions. and i would say i have learnt my lesson out of your experience to ensure that when ever i post i would ensure that my message is read as i intend to. Placement of few words here and there makes all the difference. and since mylot is a global platform, people may read the discussion differently.
Yeah the other thing is to revert to a friend that he did not understand the message correctly ....its difficult for sure. hope you handled it in a nice way.

Hi Shweta!
Yeah, it was strange that many could not get to the crux of the discussion and just responded for the sake of it.
It is heartening to hear that you have decided to go through every discussion closely so that you could well understand it.
I tried my best to handle the situation.
Thanks for joining.

Hi all!
Yes, there appears to be lots of Vodka flowing here and there, therefore, some lotters write whatever they feel and they proudly claim that they did not read the discussion carefully.
You say - "You should be happy that you are getting responses to the topic posted by you. What if it is old! Hope atleast I understood it correctly"
I would be much pleased to receive responses to my older discussions. But the core issue in my previous discussion was my responses and comments thereon by the discussions started by others (friends) on mylot.
Thanks for joining.

there are many possibilities, dpk. I always read carefully before response a discussion, but once in mylot, even I had read carefully the discussion, I did wrong response... I'm really guilty about that, I think I'm in hurry

I think i too replied in the topic, but i read it well before placing my reply. It is really hard to understand what you think in your mind while creating that topic, you must explain it well to get the desired replies, if most of the mylotters are replied in the same sort, then the mistake is not from there side. Since not every one will think in the same mistaken way. I think only the one or two myloters have the ability to read out your mind and replied your topic well. May be they are your best friends

Hi VP!
You are telling me - "It is really hard to understand what you think in your mind while creating that topic, you must explain it well to get the desired replies, if most of the mylotters are replied in the same sort, then the mistake is not from there side. "
It means that I failed to explain the main point in my discussion and all other mylotters were on the same wavelength while responding so am at fault.

Don't take it seriously, some times we are doing mistakes without our knowledge while we are in hurry manner, may be we think in a sort and other mylotter may take our topic in another angle, so this kind of misunderstanding arise.

cHi riya!
I was startled to read your first response and had to split my hair ...................... till I read your second one.
By the was second one also states - "Have fun at the training". I may clarify that am not going to join any training.
Yes, you could say that the fault lies in me and I was not clear what I wanted to discuss.
I have already posted my comments to your response on that discussion and you could check my comments.

I tell you, I am sorry that comment was for some other discussion. .. Since you are discussing on the mistakes people did in responding. seems like you were not clear because I think I have also responded on that discussion and I hope I got your point on that one. ,lol anyway I do read a discussion more than once when don't get it and see that there are responses. Then i go to the responses, heck it out and then read the discussion to understand it better, so that I can respond nice. Have fun at the training. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

I did not read the full discussion. I most times go through the discussions quickly if it is a big discussion. I think some discussions do convey meanings and some discussions do not. Sometimes I start discussions with topics in my mind and sometimes I start discussions without any topics in my mind.

Hi!
You say - "I did not read the full discussion."
It would be better before responding to any discussion you should read and understand the post so that the host could appreciate your valuable contribution to his/her discussion.

hi dpk I do not think I responded to that but I am confused
by the comments after many years.whose camments to what after
what year?If you were not talking about your own comments after many years what the devil were you talking about. the many years
you have been here or just what? I guess I need to r ead your discussion t o understand it. I ha ve had people come up with
some really odd responses that showed they did not read all the discussion at all just the title. this is j ust not right.

I am at a loss for words also due to the fact that the actual discussion you are talking about was ommitted from your post so I have no idea what you are talking about. I recently had posted a discussion which was toltally misunderstood. I got one of probably 20 plus responses that actually got what I was trying to get across.
