Cats and Fish! / myLot

Does anyone have a cat or cats that peacefully coexist with any fish that you may have? I have 2 cats and one fish and neither of the cats seems to even care that the fish exists! They've noticed the fish but never paid it more than a passing glance. Which is fine with me, I was just nervous that I'd wake up one more to find one of my cats had knocked the lid off of the tank trying to get at the fish. Smile

I don't have either, just dogs. But my friend has a lot of cats and they have a fish tank and a turtle tank. I guess the cats have never bothered the fish, but they do go after the turtles!

That's definitely not what I'd expect them to go for! Especially since turtles are usually pretty stationary or slow moving and I'd think that the constantly moving fish would be far more interesting to the cats. I guess it's better that they go after the turtles than the fish though because at least the turtles have some means of defense against the cats.

In my house 3 years ago have 1cat ,2cokertails Bird without the cage,Fish in same house.i never find any problems between them .i think its depends on how much careu taken about them.Even Birds & cat slept at the same place in the night

I also had a pet cat and fishes at the same time and my cat, orange (that's his name) didn't seem to be interested at first when i brought the fishes home. Things were fine for about a couple of weeks until one day, I found orange parked in front of the fish tank eyeing the fishes intently with his tail swishing back and forth. He was behaving the same way when he is stalking something. LOL I wasn't taking chances after that so I made sure that the fish tank lid was secure and that he won't be able to move it. :)

Uh oh! That's probably a safe bet to make sure that lid is on good and tight if your cat is showing that much interest in the fish! It's been a few years now that I've had my oldest cat and the fish so I think it's pretty safe to assume that she really doesn't care about the fish and the kitten I just adopted a couple weeks ago doesn't seem to have noticed the fish at all yet.

I think they will only notice the fish if they are really hungry...or just plain bored. LOL Best to err on the side of caution, I always say.

I am indeed a lover of all animals! I'd have more if I had the space for them!
